5.4. PATIENT POSITIONING
Set the X-ray device to Patient Access Status before having the patient access and before starting any cranium
positioning operation.
If the X-ray device is not in Patient Access Status, press the CONFIRM button once, wait for the X-ray device to
complete its movements and for the laser traces to turn on.
If you want to interrupt device movement, press the CONFIRM button again.
5.4.1. LASER TRACES
The X-ray device is equipped with four illuminated traces to help position the patient:
Upper horizontal trace [1]
This is generated by a laser projector located on the side of the X-ray generator; it can be adjusted up or down to adapt
it to different-sized heads by acting on the lever situated next to the light beam opening. This trace is used in PAN and
DENT examinations to ensure that the Frankfurt plane of the patient is horizontal and, more in general, correct
positioning.
The Frankfurt plane is represented by an imaginary line that runs from the upper edge of the auditory meatus to the
lower limit of the orbit.
Sagittal vertical trace [2]
This ensures symmetry of the patient's head with respect to the sagittal median line. Observing this trace, make sure
that the patient looks straight ahead of himself or herself to avoid that his or her head is tilted sideways or slightly
turned.
Focusing vertical trace [3]
This indicates the exact position of the focal trough; for good focusing in PAN and DENT examinations, this trace must
coincide with the upper canine cusp. The same trace is used to aim at the exact position of the condyle head for TMJ
examinations.
Lower horizontal trace [4]
This has the dual purpose of tracing the lower limit of the field of view during CB3D examinations or is used in
teleradiographic (CEPH) examinations to ensure that the Frankfurt plane of the patient is horizontal.
The illuminated traces appear when you press the CONFIRM button once and the X-ray device has completed its
movements to go into the patient access position. After 30 seconds of inactivity, the traces disappear; to make them
reappear, just press one of the buttons
Each time you press the CONFIRM button, all the movable parts of the device move. Be careful NOT to press
the button during patient positioning and make sure that the device can move in safe conditions.
