It is therefore essential during the installation to follow and
check the points given in this manual completely.

A Follow-Up steering system consists of at least the following
main parts:

- Electronic control unit (1)

3.3 Electronic control unit
The electronic control unit forms the central point of the instal-
lation. Almost all parts of the installation are connected to this
unit.
Positioning
Choose a dry position well away from any source of heat. High
temperatures can adversely influence the working of the equip-
ment.
The electronic control unit may never be placed in
the bilge water!
Position the electronic control unit between the batteries and
the drive unit. This limits the total length of the main power
cables – from the battery to the electronic control unit and then
to the drive unit. The voltage loss is kept to a minimum by limit-
ing the total length of the power cables as far as possible.
Preferably fit the electronic control unit against a wall in any
desired position.
When installing remember that there must be access to the
electronics unit when taking the system into service.
Connections
Diagram 7.1 summarises the connections which may or must
be made.
Follow the detailed wiring diagrams when making the actual
connections.
- The power cables and the drive unit are connected using
6.3 mm rapid fastening cable ends.
- The other connections are fitted with removable connection
blocks.
- Nothing is to be connected to the bottom right connection.
This is for system diagnosis and system up-dating only.
