Manner of installation
In order to ensure that the axle of the rudder feedback unit
rotates in the same direction as the actual deflection of the
rudder, plug (XI) must be set to the position 'NORM' . This
plug is already set to 'NORM' when the rudder feedback unit is
delivered.
If the rudder feedback unit is to be set up so that when the rud-
der is deflected to the right the axle on the rudder feedback
unit is deflected to the left, then plug (XI) must be set to the
position 'REV'. This is done by pulling out the plug and rotating
it through 180°.
Installing
Never install the rudder feedback unit outboard!
Install the rudder feedback unit so that the arm will closely fol-
low the movement of the tiller.
Fit the rudder feedback unit so that the arm and tiller move
in the same plane.
Fit the 2 ball weights on the arm and the tiller.

Decide on the distance A according to the available space but
make it as long as possible.
Use the screws supplied to fix the rudder feedback unit in place.
Tighten up the rod
with the set screw.
Connections
The rudder feedback unit must be connected to the Follow-Up
steering system control unit as shown in diagram 7.4.

Put the plug attached to the green wire, for the rudder position
signal, into the connection on the rudder feedback unit above
the 2 core cable. The green wire is about 10 m long.
The control unit of the Follow-Up steering system is provided
with connections for sending the rudder position signal to a
Vetus autopilot or Vetus rudder position indicator.
The distances between the centre of the rudder
axle/ ball joint and between the centre of the feed-
back unit/ball joint must be exactly the same (A).
The other connections on the rudder feedback unit
are not used!
When using the Follow-Up steering an autopilot or
rudder position indicator must never be connected
directly to the rudder feedback unit.
