Operating instructions for lawn tractors
Problem
Starter does not react.
Starter runs, but engine does not
start
Engine emits smoke.
Excessive vibration.
Cutting mechanism does not
discharge grass or cuts unevenly.
Engine is running, cutter deck is not
mowing.
Possible cause(s)
Safety lock system has engaged.
Battery not connected properly
Empty or weak battery.
Fuse has tripped.
Loose earth (ground) lead between
engine and frame.
Choke and throttle at wrong position Actuate the choke.
Carburettor not receiving any fuel,
fuel tank empty.
Defective or dirty spark plug.
No ignition spark.
Too much oil in engine.
Engine defective.
Damaged blade drive shaft or
defective cutting blade.
Engine speed too low.
Travelling speed too high.
Cutting blade is blunt.
Bowden cable incorrectly set or torn. Have the Bowden cable adjusted or
V-belt torn.
Remedy
To start the engine, first sit down on
the driver's seat. Press down fully the
brake pedal or engage the locking
brake.
Switch off the cutters when your
appliance features a PTO switch
or PTO lever.
Install the grass catcher or deflector
when your appliance is fitted with
a rear ejector.
Connect the red cable to the positive
(+) terminal on the battery and the
black cable to the negative (–) terminal
on the battery.
Check the liquid level in the battery.
If required, top up with distilled water
up to 1 cm below the inlet opening.
Then charge the battery.
Replace the fuse. If the fuse trips
repeatedly, find the cause (usually
short-circuit).
Connect the earth (ground) lead.
Move throttle to

Top up with fuel.
Check spark plug; see engine manual.
Have ignition checked in repair shop.
Switch OFF appliance immediately.
Check engine oil level.
Switch OFF appliance immediately.
Engine must be checked at specialist

Switch OFF appliance immediately.
Have defective parts replaced.
Increase throttle.
Set to a lower travelling speed.
Arrange for service agent to sharpen
or replace blade.
