10.5 INsPEctING tHE cEll
The production reactor has an average operational life cycle of around 20,000 hours. This operational life
cycle can vary greatly depending on a number of parameters. It can only be replaced by BWT personnel.
Its performance can be checked using the following procedure:
Use a current clamp to measure the current of one of the two wires connected to the electrode.
In normal mode, the current measured should be greater than 10A.
If the current is less than 10A then there is a problem with the electrode or the salt feed
- either the start of a build up of scale (clean with acid)
- or a high degree of wear (consider replacing soon)
- or the salt concentration is too low (measure the concentration, this should be between 20 and 25 gr/l)
If the current drops below 7A
- either there is a heavy build up of scale on the electrode (clean with acid, or replace the electrode)
- or it is at the end of its operational life (replace the electrode)
- or there is no more salt (reservoir empty or malfunctioning brine injection pump)
The installation is configured to trigger an alarm when the threshold of 6.5 A is reached: this will stop production

10.6.1 Maintenance of the WP 1000 injection pump (softened water)
From the service menu, set the unit to commissioning mode.
- Disconnect the intake and outlet hoses
beneath the pump.
- Remove the transparent front panel of
the pump by turning it anticlockwise until
it stops.
- Remove the hose connections by pulling
them vertically upwards.
- Remove the tube from the casing, taking
care not to remove the rotor elements.
