D. THE HELMET
8. CHIN GUARD HOOP
The J1 is the only jet helmet equipped with a new kind of chin guard
hoop (supplied with the helmet). The chin piece when correctly fitted
sits at the bottom of your field of vision and is therefore barely visible
when wearing the helmet. The purpose of the guard hoop – made of a
special plastic – is to spread the forces, which occur in the area of
the chin in the event of an impact, over the entire helmet shell. The
additional safety zone thus created helps to keep these forces away
from the rider's face. Very important in that respect is the correct
adjustment and correct fitting of the retention system (for the handling
of the chinstrap/fastener system, please refer to Section D.9.). In
addition, the J1 is fitted with a self-release mechanism that allows the
chin guard hoop to detach from the helmet when a given pulling force
is exceeded. This mechanism can counteract the helmet getting
hooked up on another object and placing unnecessary stress on the
throat and neck region.
Locking the chin guard hoop
Lock the chin guard hoop onto the helmet shell by pushing the ends
of the chin guard hoop into the catch openings at left and right so that
you hear it snap into place.

Tip:
Please note also the instructions for putting the helmet on (see
Section E.1.).
Detaching the chin guard hoop
Detach the chin guard hoop from the helmet by pressing the red side
buttons upwards with the thumbs (step 1) and then pulling the chin
guard hoop out of its two catches (step 2).
Tip:
Please also refer to the instructions for taking the helmet off (see
Section E.2).
Caution:
The use of the chin guard hoop provides significantly more
protection than conventional jet helmets, but it cannot counteract
all dangers and risks and cannot replace the protective capability
of a full-face helmet.
Note:
For safety reasons, the helmet is equipped with a self-release
mechanism that allows the chin guard hoop to detach from the
helmet when a given pulling force is exceeded. If you carry the
helmet by the chin guard hoop, avoid swinging or rotating the
