7. Fault/Safety Management

7.2 Path Detection

The Path Detection
Ping feature helps to verify the status of a connection, while the Tracert shows how many routes and how long it takes
to reach a destination.

7.2.1 Ping Test

Select "Fault/Safety
Path Detection" to determine if a host is responding (Figure 7.15). Enter the IP address to ping in the "Destination
IP" field, the timeout period from 1-10 seconds (default is 2), and the repeat ping number from 1-1000 (default is 5). Select "Start Test" to
begin the test and display the results.

7.2.2 Tracert

Use the Tracert function to trace the route of every router a data packet goes through before it reaches its destination. Select "Fault/Safety
Tracert" and enter the IP address in the "Destination IP address" field (Figure 7.16). Next, enter the timeout period between 1-10
(default is 2 milliseconds).
