Installing the turbine in the fuselage / thrust pipe system
Side view of turbine / thrust pipe
There is an inherent danger in some models, and in particular those which feature an air intake on the
underside of the fuselage behind the nosewheel (e.g. F16), that small stones and dirt will be sucked up and
into the turbine intake. With such models it is essential to install a filter (e.g. a large kitchen sieve; mesh size
approx. 0.5 - 1.5 mm) in the air intake, forward of the turbine. This reliably prevents turbine damage due to
foreign bodies, and has no detrimental effect on the engine's operation.
