DESCRIPTION

SJM™ Séguin Annuloplasty Ring
The SJM™ Séguin Annuloplasty Ring is designed for single patient use only.
The ring may be used to repair a mitral valve. The kidney-shaped design
corresponds to the configuration of a normal mitral orifice (Figure 1).
The ring is constructed of a polyethylene core covered by a knitted polyester
sewing ring. The core is tapered to provide a range of stiffness (Figure 2). The
thicker anterior region of the core ensures rigidity between the two trigones. The
thinner posterior region of the core allows the mitral annulus to adapt to changes
during the cardiac cycle.
Two green threads indicate the site of the commissures, a black line indicates the
mid-posterior of the ring, and green threads around the outer circumference of the
ring direct suture placement.

SJM™ Séguin Annuloplasty Ring Sizer Set, Model SAR-501
The SJM™ Séguin Annuloplasty Ring Sizer Set, Model SAR-501, is a multi-
component reuasble kit to be used by the physician for determining the correct size
SJM™ Séguin Annuloplasty Ring. The sizer set contains nine sizers, one holder
handle, and one extension handle. The extension handle may be used to allow
additional manipulation of the ring or sizer. To use the extension handle, screw the
threaded portion of the extension handle in a clockwise direction into the holder
handle or the sizer handle (see Figure 3).
The extension handle, the sizer handles and the holder handle are designed to
be bent in any direction up to 90° without degradation, allowing manipulation of
the sizers and the ring during use. When the handles are exposed to the heat
produced during autoclave sterilization, they will revert to their original shape.
Replacement holder handles and extension handles may be purchased separately
as Model HH-05 and Model EX-05, respectively.

INDICATIONS

The SJM™ Séguin Annuloplasty Ring is indicated for use in the repair of mitral
valves that are diseased or damaged due to acquired or congenital processes. It
is the responsibility of the surgeon to determine that the valve is repairable and
does not require replacement. The decision to undertake annuloplasty can be
made only after visual analysis of the valve pathology. Only surgeons who have
received appropriate training should perform valve repair using the SJM™ Séguin
Annuloplasty Ring.
The SJM™ Séguin Annuloplasty Ring Sizer Set Model SAR-501 is indicated for
use with the SJM™ Séguin Annuloplasty Ring.
