Too deep an intubation should be avoided as otherwise there is the
danger of one-sided ventilation of the lung!

Adapting and securing the fixation flange to the tube shaft
The information given below with regard to the fixation screw is only
valid from tube size I.D. 7 mm for the new fixation flange system.
Smaller sizes are supplied with threaded ring.
Without changing the tracheal position of the tube, the fixation flange
can now be adjusted in the longitudinal axis to adapt it to the anatomical
conditions of the neck surface.
To secure the flange, the fixation screw must be tightened clockwise
by approx. 90° (a quarter of a complete turn) until the fixation flange is
tightly connected to the shaft.
After correct fixation the marking on the fixation screw points upwards.

Warning!
The graduation on the tube shaft can be used for orientation.
It is, however, not an indication of measurements!
Warning
The intubation depth can be set according to individual requirements via
the fixation screw on the adjustable neck plate. Ideally, this is done after
previous fibreoptic inspection of the trachea. The fixation screw needs to
be screwed tightly to safely prevent the tube from sliding out of the neck
plate.
Caution (cuff related!)
When using cannulas with cuff, incorrect securing of the fixation screw
can lead to the air supply channel being squeezed together somewhere
on the shaft of the tube, thus rendering inflation or deflation of the cuff
impossible.
In this case the fixation screw must be loosened and the position of
the fixation flange corrected. After correct fixation the marking on the
fixation screw points upwards. (see ill. 2)
Caution
If the fixation flange cannot be secured due to contamination by
lubricants, it is recommended to briefly clean the shaft.
Caution
Do not immerse in alcohol!
5.
Fixing the fixation flange to the patient's neck
After fixing the fixation flange on the tube shaft, it must be secured to
the patient's neck with the velcro band in order to prevent the tube from
slipping out. To achieve this, thread the ends of the neck band through
the slots in the fixation flange and secure at the sides with the velcro
fasteners.
