5. Electrical connection

5.1 Single-phase pumps

The user or installer is responsible
Caution
for fitting the correct earthing and
correct protection to comply with
the valid national and local standards.
All operations must be performed
by technical personnel.
The supply voltage to the pump
must be switched off at least 5 mins.
before working on the terminal box
of the pump.

5.1.1 Mains switch

Fuses for the pump must be provided by the operator
and the pump connected to an external multi-pole
mains switch. The switch must have a contact opening
of at least 3 mm per pole in accordance with IEC 364.
5.1.2 Protection against electric shocks –
indirect contact
The pump must be earthed and protected
against indirect contact in accordance
with the national regulations.
Protective conductors must be coloured yellow/green
(PE) or yellow/green/blue (PEN).

5.1.3 Additional protection

If fault current protective switches are used for protec-
tion owing to the type of mains or requirement of
the power supply company, fault current protective
switches must be used:
– which also respond according to DIN VDE 0664 to
pulsating DC fault currents (pulse current sensitive
version),
– which take account of the charging current pulse to
earth when the mains supply is switched on,
– which are suitable for the leakage current of the
pump.
If pulsed fault currents are produced owing to transient
(short-term) mains overvoltages and uneven phase loa-
ding when switching on, FI protective switches with
short delay (VSK) should be recommended. The swit-
ches must be designated with the symbol shown.

Note
the total leakage current of all
electrical equipment in the system must
be considered.

5.1.4 Motor protection

The pump requires no external motor protection.
It is protected both against slowly developing overload
as well as blockage (IEC 34-11: TP 211).

5.1.5 Overvoltage protection

The pump is protected against overvoltages by means
of the varistors connected between phase-zero and
phase-earth.

5.1.6 Supply voltage

1 × 220 – 240 V, 50 Hz, PE.
Recommended fuse sizes
Motor sizes from 0,75 to 1,5 kW: max. 10 A
It must be ensured that the electrical data specified
on the rating plate correspond with the existing power
supply.
The conductors in the pump terminal box should be
kept as short as possible. With the exception of the
protective conductor, which must be sufficiently long
so that it is the last to be disconnected from the screw
connector if the cable is accidentally pulled out.
Fig. 3 shows an example of a pump connected to
the mains with mains switch, preliminary fuses and
additional protection.

5.1.7 Switching the pump on and off

The pump must only be switched on and
Caution
off three or four times per hour from the
mains supply.
If the pump is switched on/off more frequently, the input
for external ON/OFF should be used to switch the pump.
When switched on from the mains the pump only starts
after 10 secs.
