5.2 Electrical connection
Three-phase pumps up to 7.5 kW
The user or installer is responsible
Caution
for fitting the correct earthing and
correct protection to comply with
the valid national and local standards.
All operations must be performed
by technical personnel.
The supply voltage to the pump
must be switched off at least 5 mins.
before working on the terminal box
of the pump.
5.2.1 Mains switch
Fuses for the pump must be provided by the operator
and the pump connected to an external multi-pole
mains switch. The switch must have a contact opening
of at least 3 mm per pole in accordance with IEC 364.
5.2.2 Protection against electric shocks –
indirect contact
The pump must be earthed and protected
against indirect contact in accordance
with the national regulations.
Protective conductors must be coloured yellow/green
(PE) or yellow/green/blue (PEN).
Since motors from 4 kW to 7.5 kW
Caution
have a leakage current over 3.5 mA
owing to their design, these motors
must be connected to highly reliable
and robust earth connections.
The leakage current for the individual motor sizes can be
seen in the following table.
Leakage current
Motor size
[kW]
1,0 to 3,0
4,0 to 5,5
7,5
The leakage currents are measured according
to EN 60 355-1.
The pump must be installed stationary and permanently.
It must also be connected to the supply voltage via an
industrial plug (CEE). The plug must comply with the
requirements specified in EN 60 309 or IEC 309.
– The earth connection must be provided as double
protective conductor.
5.2.3 Additional protection
If fault current protective switches are used for protec-
tion owing to the type of mains or requirement of
the power supply company, fault current protective
switches must be used:
– which also respond according to DIN VDE 0664 to
pulsating DC fault currents and smooth DC fault
currents (version sensitive to all currents),
– which take account of the charging current pulse to
earth when the mains supply is switched on,
– which are suitable for the leakage current of the
pump.
Leakage current
[mA]
< 3,5
< 5
< 10
If pulsed fault currents are produced owing to transient
(short-term) mains overvoltages and uneven phase
loading when switching on, FI protective switches with
short delay (VSK) should be recommended.
The switches must be designated with the symbol
shown.
For the choice of FI protective switch
Note
the total leakage current of all e
lectrical equipment in the system must
be considered.
5.2.4 Motor protection
The pump requires no external motor protection.
It is protected both against slowly developing overload as
well as blockage (IEC 34-11: TP 211).
5.2.5 Overvoltage protection
The pump is protected against overvoltages by means of
the varistors connected between the phases and between
phases and earth.
5.2.6 Supply voltage
3 × 400 V, 50 Hz, PE.
Recommended fuse sizes
See «12. Technical data»
It must be ensured that the electrical data specified
on the rating plate correspond with the existing power
supply.
The conductors in the pump terminal box should be
kept as short as possible. With the exception of the
protective conductor, which must be sufficiently long
so that it is the last to be disconnected from the screw
connector if the cable is accidentally pulled out.
Fig. 5 shows an example of a pump connected to
the mains with mains switch, preliminary fuses and
additional protection.
