ADJUSTMENTS
9.1 FAN BELT TENSION
The tension on the belt is correct when the belt can
be depressed 7 to 9mm (0.28 - 0.35in) under a load
of 10kgf (22lbs) midway between the crankshaft
pulley and the alternator pulley. To adjust:
(a) Release the two bolts (A ) holding the
alternator and adjust alternator until the tension
is correct.
(b) Re-tighten the bolts securely after adjusting.
9.2 DIVERTER VALVE OPERATING MECHANISM
The clearance between the divertor valve spool and
the adjusting screw should be 1mm (0.04in) when
the lifting arm is in the raised position. To adjust:
(a) Release the locking nut (A).
(b) Adjust the screw (B) to obtain correct
clearance.
(c) Tighten locking nut (A).
9.3 THROTTLE LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT
If it becomes necessary to adjust the engine r.p.m.
it should be carried out as follows:
NOTE: Throttle linkage adjustment should be carried
out with the engine switched off.
(a) Slacken lock nuts (B) on connecting rod (C),
screw rod (C) to increase its length for higher
engine speeds or screw rod (C) to decrease its
length for lower engine speeds.
(b) Tighten the lock nuts (B) on the connecting rod,
start engine and set hand throttle to maximum
engine speed. Check speed on instrument
panel read out.
NOTE: DO NOT exceed the maximum engine
speed of 2850 r.p.m.
(c) If any further adjustment is necessary, stop
engine and repeat instructions in 'a' and 'b'.
NOTE: If insufficient thread is engaged in ball
joints during adjustment the throttle cable
will have to be repositioned at the swivel
clamp and instructions 'a' and 'b' repeated.
