B. Organism Identification
The Biotype Lookup Program in the LabPro Information Manager and on the Beckman Coulter website is used
for the identification of unknown test organisms. Results of the 27 tests for Streptococcaceae and 18 tests for
Micrococcaceae are translated into a 9 or 6 digit biotype number respectively. The program lists the organism
identification and the relative probabilities, in the order of the highest probability, up to a cumulative total of
99.9%. Should a biotype number occur that results in a "Very Rare Biotype," consult the LabPro Software
(Utilities>System>Biotype Lookup), the Biotype Lookup Program on the Beckman Coulter website, or your
Beckman Coulter Representative or Distributor.
2. Interpretation of MIC Results
Susceptibility is determined by comparing the MIC of an organism to the attainable blood or urine level of the antimicrobic.
The following table lists interpretive criteria as indicated in the CLSI document, EUCAST guidelines, the Report of the
Comité de l'Antibiogramme de la Société Française de Microbiologie (CA-SFM), FDA, and MENSURA recommendations.
Some of these differ from the manufacturer's interpretive breakpoints listed in the Physicians' Desk Reference.
