2. While firmly holding the curved guide in
place, use the Smith & Nephew flexible drill
bit to prepare the insertion site:
Note: It is recommended to drill in one
continuous motion to prepare the site.
Note: The depth stop on the drill bit for the
suture anchor bottoms out on the proximal
end of the curved guide when proper hole
depth is reached.
3. Maintain alignment while holding the
curved guide steady and remove the drill
bit from the insertion site with the drill bit
rotating in the forward direction.
4. Using routine sterile technique, remove
the suture anchor with attached insertion
device from its packaging.
5. Holding the curved guide firmly in place,
insert the preloaded suture anchor into the
proximal end of the curved guide.
6. Rotate the insertion device to align the
suture to the desired position.
7. Push and/or tap on the proximal end of the
insertion device to insert the anchor.
Proper insertion depth is achieved when
the insertion device handle makes contact
with the proximal end of the guide handle.
This positions the suture anchor at the
appropriate depth below the surface of the
bone.
8. Disengage the suture anchor from the
insertion device:
a. Hold the handle securely in the palm
of the hand and pull back on the finger
grips using two fingers to retract the
suture tensioning mechanism.
b. While holding the suture tensioning
mechanism in the back position with the
finger grips, slowly remove the insertion
device from the insertion site until
the suture tips are visible. The suture
releases and feeds through the insertion
device as it is removed.
Alternatively:
a. Pull back on the finger grips and unwind
the suture with the free hand, then
release the finger grips.
b. Slowly remove the insertion device.
c. As the insertion device is removed,
grasp the suture below the insertion
device using the free hand to verify
suture release from the insertion device.
Note: A gentle back-and-forth twisting
motion can be helpful in removing the
anchor inserter from the curved guide.
CAUTION: Do not use sharp instruments to
manage or control the suture.
9. Discard the flexible insertion device.
