centre of gravity of the plant lies above the
cable fastening point and it is therefore
important to tie the motor to the cables
going up to the crane hook so that it

and cables prevent the motor cooling fan
covers from being damaged.

3.1 Impeller diameter
The impeller diameter can be optimized to suit the
customer's required heading. This means that the
actual impeller diameter may differ from the
standard diameter. In the sales material, data sheets,
etc. and in these instructions, the standard values are
always shown. The actual impeller diameter is
shown on the pump's type plate.
4. Intended use
The pump system serves solely for delivering liquids.
The pump's operating reliability is only guaranteed if
the pump is used in accordance with its intended
purpose. The limits quoted in the technical data must
not be exceeded on any account.
Biral inline centrifugal pumps are mainly suitable
for the following fields of use:
– Heating, ventilation, air-conditioning
and refrigeration plants
– Circulation, transport and pressure boosting
in industrial plants.
With the use of unsuitable media, such as acidic
or basic liquids, the plant may be damaged by
corrosion, rendered inoperative or become leaky.
4.1 Pumping media
Pure, low-viscosity, non-aggressive and non-explosive
media without solid or long-fibre components. The
pumping medium must not attack the pump mate-
rials chemically.
If a liquid with a density and/or viscosity differing
from those of water is to be pumped, the hydraulic
performance will change. Note that the motor output
will have to be adjusted.
O-rings and the shaft seals must be selected to suit
the pumping medium. When pumping treated water
with temperatures over 80 °C and with anticorrosive
additives, lime precipitation, etc., special shaft seals
may be necessary (e.g. in heating and air-condi-
tioning systems). In heating systems, the water
quality in accordance with VDI 2035 must be
adhered to.
4.2 Mechanical shaft seal
The pump space is sealed at the motor shaft by
a mechanical shaft seal (GLRD, Figure 15.3, 15.4,
Item 6). A low level of leakage is necessary for
lubrication. Residues may be visible if an antifreeze,
etc. is added.
Special mechanical shaft seals may be necessary
when more than 25% of antifreeze, etc. is added. In
the case of long nonoperational periods, the pump
should be periodically put into operation briefly
to avoid a high level of leakage. Water additives,
especially abrasive substances, can damage the
mechanical shaft seal (increased leakage).
There must be no vacuum at the mechanical shaft
seal.
