USER INSTRUCTIONS
Please read these instructions in conjunction with the 3M™ Versa o™ TR-302E Powered
Air Turbo Reference Lea et where you will nd information on:
• Approved combinations of headtops
• Spare parts
• Accessories
UNPACKING
Your 3M™ Versa o™ TR-302E Powered Air Turbo should contain:
a) Powered Air Turbo
b) Air ow Indicator
c) Filter cover
d) User Instructions
e) Reference Lea et
^ WARNING
Proper selection, training, use and appropriate maintenance are essential in order
for the product to help protect the wearer from certain airborne contaminants.
Failure to follow all instructions on the use of these respiratory protection products
and/or failure to properly wear the complete product during all periods of exposure
may adversely affect the wearer's health, lead to severe or life threatening illness or
permanent disability.
For suitability and proper use follow local regulations, refer to all information supplied or
contact a safety professional or 3M on 0870 60 800 60 (UK) or 1800 320 500 (Ireland).
^ Particular attention should be given to warning statements where indicated.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The 3M™ Versa o™ TR-302E Powered Air Turbo is designed to be used in conjunction
with one of the approved headtops (see Reference Lea et). This product meets the
requirements of EN12941 (Respiratory protective devices – Powered ltering devices).
The Powered Air Turbo offers a choice of standard economy or high capacity battery
packs and a range of particulate lter options (some including different nuisance odour
performance). It also incorporates an electronic control unit which provides an audible and
visual warning of low battery and/or low air ow into the headtop.
APPROVALS
These products meet the requirements of the European Community Directive 89/686/EEC
(Personal Protective Equipment Directive) and are thus CE marked.
Certi cation under Article 10, EC Type-Examination and Article 11, EC quality control, has
been issued for systems incorporating these products by BSI, Kitemark Court, Davy
Avenue, Knowlhill, Milton Keynes MK5 8PP, UK. (Noti ed Body number 0086).
This product complies with the European EMC Directive 2004/108/EC.
LIMITATIONS OF USE
Use this respirator system strictly in accordance with all instructions:
• contained in this booklet
• accompanying other components of the system (e.g. TR-302E Powered Air Turbo
Reference Lea et, Headtop User Instructions).
Do not use in concentrations of contaminant above those speci ed in the Headtop User
Instructions.
Do not use for respiratory protection against unknown atmospheric contaminants or when
concentrations of contaminants are unknown or immediately dangerous to life or health
(IDLH).
Do not use in atmospheres containing less than 19.5% oxygen. (3M de nition. Individual
countries may apply their own limits on oxygen de ciency. Seek advice if in doubt).
Do not use these products in oxygen or oxygen-enriched atmospheres.
Only use with Headtops and Spares/Accessories listed in the reference lea et and within
the usage conditions given in the Technical Speci cation.
Only for use by trained, competent personnel.
Leave the contaminated area immediately if:
a) Any part of the system becomes damaged.
b) Air ow into the headtop decreases or stops.
c) Breathing becomes dif cult.
d) Dizziness or other distress occurs.
e) You smell or taste contaminants or irritation occurs.
Never modify or alter this product. Replace parts only with original 3M spare parts.
^ Do not use these products in ammable or explosive atmospheres.
Spark arrestor should be used in all situations where the Powered Air Turbo may be
exposed to sparks, molten metal or other hot particulates.
Due to lower air density at elevations above 800 meters, the Powered Air Turbo ow alarm
may activate prematurely or battery capacity may be diminished.
Materials which may come into contact with the wearer's skin are not known to cause
allergic reactions to the majority of individuals.
This product contains no components made from natural rubber latex.
EQUIPMENT MARKING
For Headtop marking please see appropriate Headtop user instructions.
For Filter marking please see Filter user instruction.
The TR-302E Powered Air Turbo is marked to EN12941.
The TR-302E Powered Air Turbo is marked with a date of manufacture (month/year).
The standard economy and high capacity batteries for use with the Powered Air Turbo are
marked to EN12941.
The batteries are marked with a date of manufacture and cell type (year/week/cell type)
e.g. 09/10/1 for 2009, week 10, cell type 1.

PREPARATION FOR USE
Check apparatus is complete, undamaged and correctly assembled. Any damaged or
defective parts must be replaced with original 3M spare parts before use.
Undertake pre-use checks on headtop assembly as outlined in the appropriate user
instruction.
Select an approved belt and t to the Powered Air Turbo.
Select an approved battery.
(Please see TR-302E Powered Air Turbo Reference Lea et for list of 3M approved
batteries).
For battery charging instructions, please refer to User Instructions provided with battery
charging kit.
Battery
The battery should be charged prior to rst use.
For battery charging instructions, please refer to User Instructions provided with battery
charging kit.
The battery charge can be determined by pressing on the indicator as shown in Fig 1.
(1 bar = less than 20%, 5 bars = 80 to 100%).
Fit the battery as shown in Fig 2.
The latch should engage with an audible click. Gently pull the battery pack to con rm it is
locked in place.
Filters
Select an approved lter.
(Please see TR-302E Powered Air Turbo Reference Lea et for list of 3M approved lters).
^ Inspect lter before rst installation or reinstallation and immediately replace if
damaged.
Remove the lter cover by pressing the latch on the Powered Air Turbo and lifting the
cover off as shown in Fig 3. Place the lters and optional pre- lters and/or spark arrestor
into the lter cover as shown in Fig 4. The lter label should be visible in the lter cover
window. Spark arrestor should be used in all situations where the Powered Air Turbo may
be exposed to sparks, molten metal or other hot particulates.
^ Always properly install the lter into the Powered Air Turbo.
Re-install the lter cover into the Powered Air Turbo ensuring the latch fully engages.
Air ow Check
Before use, undertake air ow check using the air ow indicator tube as shown in Fig 5.
The bottom of the oating ball should rest at or above the minimum ow mark (Fig 6).
To check for correct functioning of the audible warning device, place a hand over the
outlet of the Powered Air Turbo. The Powered Air Turbo should sound an audible alarm
and the fan LED will ash.
Note: High environmental noise levels or use of hearing protection may interfere with the
user hearing the audible alarms. Users may need to check for the visual alarms more
frequently in high noise environments.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
DONNING
1. Select an approved breathing tube (See reference lea et for list of 3M approved
breathing tubes) and connect top end to headtop assembly.
Inspect the gasket located on the bayonet end of the breathing tube (i.e. the end that
connects to the Powered Air Turbo) for signs of wear or damage. If the seal is worn or
damaged, the breathing tube should be replaced.
2. Insert the bottom end of the breathing tube into the outlet of the Powered Air Turbo and
turn the end of the breathing tube to ensure it is tted rmly. Adjust and buckle the waist
belt with the Powered Air Turbo tted comfortably around your waist (see note below for
tting backpack).
3. Adjust the Headtop as outlined in the appropriate User Instruction.
4. Switch on the Powered Air Trubo, t the Headtop and ensure at least minimum air ow
is achieved. (The audible alarm will sound if below minimum air ow - please see fault
nding).
Note: For tting the Powered Air Turbo to the optional backpack, see Fig 7. Check that it is
