Inspecting the inverted tooth chain
To ensure failure-free and safe operation of the inverted tooth
chain drive, the inspections listed in Table 10 must be carried out
at regular intervals.
The intervals depend on the system with which the inverted tooth
chain drive is used.
During the first 200–400 operating hours of the running-in phase,
the inverted tooth chain elongates more. Therefore, more frequent
inspections are necessary during the running-in phase.
Observation
No oil film is present on the
inverted tooth chain.
Wear and tear manifests in
irregular material removal or
planing.
The chain is slacking off.
The slack span is not within
the permitted range.

Necessary action
Lubricate inverted tooth chain (see
"Lubricating inverted tooth chains"
on page 74).
Replace the inverted tooth chain or
links (see "Lengthening or
shortening inverted tooth chains" on
page 70).
Check whether the sprockets are
parallel and aligned (see "Sprocket
assembly" on page 63).
Replace sprockets.
Set the tension (see "Tensioning the
inverted tooth chain" on page 69).
