All inverted tooth chain types can be lengthened or shortened by
two links, or any whole number multiple of two links. (Observe
the special instructions for KH inverted tooth chains on page 71
and for laser-welded inverted tooth conveyor chains on page 72.)
1. Open the inverted tooth chain as described in "Disassembling
and replacing the inverted tooth chain drive" on page 79.
2. Remove two links or any whole number multiple of two links or
insert a corresponding number of links.
3. Close the inverted tooth chain, as described in "Locking the
inverted tooth chain" on page 66.
A special link allows you can change the length of a KH inverted
tooth chain by only one
breaking load to 80 % of the original and can also lead to meshing
malfunctions or irregularities.
For KH inverted tooth chains with an
chain can be lengthened or shortened by one link as follows:
1. Open the inverted tooth chain as described in "Disassembling
and replacing the inverted tooth chain drive" on page 79.
2. Shortening: Remove four links and insert the special link.
Lengthening: Remove two links and insert the special link.
3. Close the inverted tooth chain, as described in "Locking the
inverted tooth chain" on page 66.
For KH inverted tooth chains with an
chain can be lengthened or shortened by one link as follows:
1. Open the inverted tooth chain as described in "Disassembling
and replacing the inverted tooth chain drive" on page 79.
2. Shortening: Remove the special link and insert a double link.
Lengthening: Remove the special link's cranked plates (13)
and insert a double link.
3. Close the inverted tooth chain, as described in "Locking the
inverted tooth chain" on page 66.
