b. Insert the connector (fig. 3, item 1) in the toggle opening
(fig. 3, item 12) then release the toggle lever (fig. 3, item 11).
c. Hold the traveller and pull on the connector to place it in the
connection hole on the opposite side (fig. 3, item 9).
d. Check that the connector is properly in position in the
connection hole (fig. 3, item 9) and that the toggle (fig. 3,
item 11) is correctly re-positioned.

Operation
Before use, check that:
• the traveller is in good condition,
• it is not deformed,
• it is not corroded,
• it has not been damaged by chemicals,
• it opens and locks correctly.
CAUTION
Before and during use, you must consider how any
necessary rescue operation could be efficiently and safely
carried out.
Prohibited methods
of use
The following is prohibited:
Use of the travsmart traveller by anyone who has not been
authorised, trained and recognised as qualified to use this
system, or without proper supervision by a person who is
authorised, trained and recognised as qualified to use this
system.
Use of the travsmart traveller if any of the markings on the
device are missing or illegible.
Use of the travsmart traveller if it has not been covered by
the required preliminary checks.
Use of a travsmart traveller which has not be covered by a
periodic inspection over the past 12 months by a technician
who has authorised re-use of the system in writing.
Use of the travsmart traveller for any other purpose other
than the purpose described in this manual.
Use of the travsmart traveller on any other type of lifeline,
other than the travsmart and travsmart 2 lifeline.
Use of a travsmart traveller which has exceeded the service
life defined by Tractel
.
®
Use of the travsmart traveller by more than 1 person at a
time.
Use of a travsmart traveller which has been subject to a fall
by a worker.
Use of the travsmart traveller as a means of suspension or
as a position-holding system.
Use of the travsmart traveller in an explosive atmosphere.
Use of the travsmart traveller outside an operating
temperature range of between -35°C and +80°C.
Repair of the travsmart traveller by anyone who has not been
trained and recognised qualified to do so in writing by
Tractel
®
.
Use the travsmart traveller when not in top physical
condition.
Authorise use of the travsmart traveller by a pregnant
woman.
Use of the travsmart traveller if a rescue plan has not been
prepared previously in the event of an operator fall.
Use of the travsmart traveller if the safety function of any of
the associated parts is affected by the safety function of
another part, or if it interferes with it.
Use of the travsmart traveller with the gate connector placed
in the toggle opening.
Pull on the travsmart traveller to try to clear a possible
obstacle.
Connection or disconnection from the travsmart and
travsmart 2 lifelines wire rope at any location other than
those defined for this purpose.
To pass the lanyards of the fall arrest system on sharp edges
or to leave them rubbing on hard surfaces.
To use the travsmart slider on a travsmart or travsmart 2
lifeline that has not been subject to a periodic inspection,
within the last 12 months, by a technician who has issued

lifeline that has not been been subject to prior checks.

Transport and storage
The travsmart traveller covered by this manual must be stored
and transported in its original package.
During storage and/or transport, the traveller must be:
• Preserved in a dry location,
• Preserved at a temperature of between – 35°C and + 80°C,
• Protected against chemical and mechanical attacks, and any
other environmental attacks.
Scrapping and protection
of the environment
Scrapping of the travsmart traveller must be carried out in
compliance of the laws of the country in which it is used.
All the components of the traveller must be processed as steel-
type metal waste.
