In order to guarantee reliable measurement even under the influence of electromagnetic
fields, the amplifier module and strain gage, and their wiring, are integrated in a single
housing. This creates a Faraday cage.
If you are using a sensor with an inline amplifier, the housing of the amplifier is connected
to the housing of the force transducer by the cable shield. Note that the transducer and
amplifier housing must be at the same electrical potential in order to avoid equalizing
currents via the shield of the connecting cable.

Integrated amplifier with IO-LINK interface (VAIO)
In accordance with the IO-LINK specification, cables for connecting the force transducer
with IO-LINK interface to the IO-LINK master are not shielded. For this reason, the hous
ings of the sensors with IO-LINK are always electrically isolated from the master.
If you have ordered your U10M with a connected "VAIO" inline amplifier, you will receive
the sensor and electronics in a permanently connected unit. This version provides a digi
tal data output signal. The sensors have an IO-Link interface with a COM3 data output
rate. The data structure equates to the IO-Link Profile Smart Sensors 2nd Edition, Specifi
cation, Version 1.1 September 2021.
The product can be used both as a measuring sensor and a programmable actuator
(via digital switching outputs).
8.2.2.1
Function
The analog signals of the force transducer are initially digitized, so that they can then be
converted into measured values in Newtons as per the factory settings. Regardless of
the^connected master, the sample rate is always 40 kHz, so that even very fast pro
cesses (such as peak force when pressing) can be reliably recorded and evaluated in the
electronics unit. (e.g. peak force when pressing). It is possible to store the result of a
calibration (as supporting interpolation points or as coefficients of a second or third
degree polynomial) in the sensor in order to increase the accuracy. In a further scaling
step, you can enter any unit and a conversion factor so that it is possible to determine
other physical quantities (e.g. torque while using a lever arm, or measurements using
units other than the ones in the SI system, e.g. lbf).
