Preparation of the lawn

- Before scarifying, the
lawn needs to be cut
as short as possible
and
cleared
of
cuttings
- Before
scarifying,
remove
any
objects
from the area you will
be working on.
Do not scarify your lawn
if the grass is damp or it
is raining.
General information about scarifying
What exactly is scarifying?
The vertical cutting action of the tines removes
thatch, moss and creeping weeds – without damaging
the roots of the grass, which are deeper in the soil.
As a result, the circulation of air, water and nutrients
to the roots is improved – allowing the grass to grow
much better.
Why do you need to scarify?
The
different
demands
throughout the year leave it covered with a layer of
dried grasses, moss and other thatch-like coverings.
This makes it difficult for the roots of the grass to get
enough nutrients, air and water. Consequently your
lawn loses its shine. Scarifying is a process whereby
a careful vertical cut is made into the thatch that
removes all of the unwanted deposits, giving the
grass access to more nutrients, air, light and water
again.
How and when to scarify:
You should scarify your lawn twice a year. We
recommend a first treatment in the spring when the
ground is no longer frozen, with a second treatment in
late summer. Leaving the second treatment any later
might have an adverse effect on the resistance of the
lawn.
It is very important to remove all the materials that are
ejected by the scarifier from the surface of the lawn.
If the thatch is very dense then it may be necessary
to scarify the grass twice. If this is the case, change
the direction so that the second pass is at right angles
to the first one.
To prevent the grass from drying out, regular watering
or rain is required on the treated area for about 4-5
days after treatment.
