Description of Simple Assemble Editing
Using two DAT decks (one for playback and the other for recording), this function ensures frame-accurate
continuity in recording.
Using the trim and rehearsal playback functions, the player deck cues the tape to the frame of the playback start
position while the recorder deck cues the tape to the frame of the recording start position. Before editing, the
continuity of what has been recorded can be checked by rehearsal playback. In rehearsal playback, the recording
machine first plays the segment stored in the Quick Start RAM. When that is completed, the recording machine
sends a PLAY command to the source deck, which is cued up in Quick Start mode, while automatically switching
to Source Monitor mode. Thus it is possible to hear a seamless edit.
Another use of this continuity in recording function is that specific areas on prerecorded tapes can be re-
recorded. (insert-editing)
Method of Operation
Connecting the two DAT (player and recorder) decks
Connect the 8-pin remote control terminals on both DAT decks using a cable for simple assemble editing.
Depending on the input signals, connect the corresponding terminals on each deck by a cable: when recording
digital input signals, connect the digital I/O terminals and when recording analog input signals, connect the
analog I/O terminals.
Establishing the trim mode for simple assemble editing
1 Set the QUICK START button to ON and press the STANDBY /REHEARSAL button. The recorder DAT deck
is then placed in the quick start trim mode, and the quick start indicator flashes.
2 Press the REC button to set the deck to the trim mode for simple assemble editing.
The PCM playback data for about 5 seconds before and after the tape position where the button was pressed is
stored in the RAM.
Note:
The deck will not be placed in the trim mode if the absolute time has not been recorded on its tape.
Note:
When the sampling frequency used for the recording differs from that of the material stored on tape, the
sampling frequency indicator flashes to warn the operator.
In this case, input the signals with the same
sampling frequency as that of the recoreded material.
Finely adjusting the editing position
In the trim mode the recording start position can be finely adjusted in frame increments of up to 50 frames before
arid after the position. Apart from the fact that the rec indicator flashes, function is the same as normal trim mode.
Although the display indicates "SOCE", it reverts to A-Time display when using the SETTING dial to trim the
Quick Start position. (Refer to the section on the quick start function.)
Except while rehearsal playback is in progress, the deck is set to the source monitoring mode.
Selecting the monitor mode
It is possible to set the following two monitor modes when making fine adjustment to the edit position.
