Quick Start Function
Description of Quick Start Function
This function enables sound to be played back instantly when the PLAY button is pressed. This is accomplished
by using buffer memory to store a few seconds of PCM data. When the PLAY button is pressed in Quick Start
mode, playback is initially from the buffer memory as the tape begins to roll and stabilize. When actual tape
playback begins after the buffer memory is used up, the transition is seamless. This is an advantage over
conventional DAT Recorders, which can take up to 1 second to produce sound after pressing the PLAY button
due to muting while the tape path stabilizes. By using the various Quick Start features, it is now also possible
to locate and cue to positions on a tape with frame accuracy. There are 33 (or 34) frames per second in DAT
Absolute Time.
The playback start position (= quick start position) of the tape can be adjusted finely in *frame increments over
a range of +50 frames, which is approx. 3 seconds of recorded time.
Once the playback start position has been finely adjusted (trimmed), the actual cue point can be monitored by
proceeding with rehearsal playback.
By positioning the tape using the rehearsal playback in the trim mode in this way, the Start ID and Skip ID can
be recorded in precise, frame-accurate positions during tape editing. (High-precision post-recording editing)
*Frame: Two tracks are recorded on the tape while the cylinder (rotating head) is rotated through 360 degrees.
These two tracks are known as a "frame". One second of record or playback time consists of 33 (or 34)
frames.
