ATTENTION
Risk of damage!
Operating the engine without a filter element or with a
damaged filter element can cause engine damage.
–
Never run the engine without the air filter element
or with a damaged filter element. This would allow
dirt into the engine, which would result in severe
damage to the engine.
Fouled air filters (14a) diminish the engine output due to
reduced air supply to the carburettor. Regular inspection
is therefore essential.
The air filter (14a) should be checked every 25 operat-
ing hours and cleaned as required. The air filter (14a)
must be checked more often in case of very dusty air.
1. Take off the air filter cover (14) and remove the air
filter (14a).
2. Clean the air filter (14a) only by knocking it out.
3. Replace a defective air filter (14a) with a new one.
4. Put the air filter (14a) back in place and replace the
air filter cover (14).
16.6 Maintaining the spark
plug (17a) (Fig. 27+28)
Check the spark plug (17a) for contamination for the
first time after 10 operating hours and clean it with a
copper wire brush if necessary. Then maintain the spark
plug (17a) every 50 operating hours.
1. Pull off the spark plug connector (17) with a twisting
motion.
2. Remove the spark plug (17a) with a spark plug
wrench (not included in the scope of delivery).
3. Use a feeler gauge to set the gap to 0.75
mm( 0.030"). Refit the spark plug (17a) and take
care not to overtighten it.
16.7 Engine brake lever (3)
(Fig. 1, 16)
The engine is equipped with a mechanical brake which
has to be checked regularly. When releasing the engine
brake lever (3), the blade (30) must come to a standstill
within 7 seconds.
A running blade (30) produces clearly perceptible wind
noises. The running of the blade (30) is signalled by the
wind noise generated and can thus be controlled.
NOTE
If you notice that the blade stopping device is not
working correctly, please contact the customer service
or a specialist workshop.
Ensure that the product is in perfect condition for the en-
tire duration of its service life. Improper maintenance
may cause life-threatening injuries.
