Bell 230
1.5.3 Gluing the mechanics mountings permanently
When you are confident that everything fits correctly, unscrew the self-tapping screws in parts
(A13/A14) and loosen the retaining screws in the mechanics to the point where you can apply
epoxy (UHU plus endfest 300) between the blocks (A23) and the support plates, and to the
brass tubes at the rear of the fuselage bottom; apply the epoxy, then tighten the screws again.
When the resin has cured completely, undo all six retaining screws and remove the mechanics
from the fuselage once more. The bulkheads A7, A20 and A21 can now be fixed permanently to
each other and to the fuselage shell using epoxy (UHU plus endfest 300); we recommend
reinforcing the joints with strips of glass tape. Take particular care over gluing the bulkheads
A20/A21; the joints must be really strong. Before the epoxy has cured completely, install the
mechanics again, check alignment once more, and tighten the fixing screws.
Unscrew the two top braces again. Working through the holes in the brackets, drill 2 mm Ø
holes through the wooden parts so that you can fit two M2 x 20 screws through them. Secure
the screws with M2 nuts, and apply a drop of epoxy to the screws and nuts. Roughen up the
flange of the fuselage opening where parts (A13/A14) rest against them, apply UHU plus
endfest 300 to the braces and fit them again. Tighten the self-tapping screws to hold the parts in
place while the glue is setting hard.
Leave these glued joints to cure completely. Undo the six fixing screws and remove the
mechanics from the fuselage.
