7.3
Cleaning/disinfecting
An automatic process should be used for
cleaning/disinfecting the instruments (disinfector). A manual
process is not recommended due to the considerably lower
effectiveness.
BOWA recommends the use of neutral to slightly alkaline
cleaning agents or combined cleaning agents and
disinfectants without critical ingredients (depending on the
concentration). Alcoholic and/or aldehydic ingredients
should preferably be used, as these do not attack the
materials used by BOWA so severely.
Discolouration of metal surfaces is possible when alkaline
cleaners are used (pH 9.5 - 11.5). However, this does not
impair the functional capability of the product. Strong
alkaline cleaners (pH > 11.5) must be avoided.
BOWA has demonstrated that the products can be
effectively cleaned/disinfected using a machine process (5
min at 90°C) with an alkaline cleaning agent and surfactant
additive (neodisher® mediclean). This applies in the
following con- ditions: The described cleaning and
disinfecting method is applied when cleaning/disinfecting.
Cleaning agents must offer the proven effectiveness and be
compatible with the system (disinfector and cleaning agent)
used in the specified test.
When choosing the disinfector, it must be ensured
•
that the disinfector fundamentally has proven
effectiveness (e.g. DGHM or FDA approval or CE
marking according to DIN EN ISO 15883),
•
that a tested program for thermal disinfection (at least 5
min at 90 °C or A
(with chemical disinfection there is a risk of disinfectant
residues on the instruments),
•
that the program used is suitable for the instruments
and includes sufficient rinsing cycles,
MN009-029-S8 EN
value > 3000) is used if possible
