3.4. PRODUCT UPDATE

The product has a USB connector on the front panel protected by a cap, to
update its software (adding synergies, functionalities). Contact your dealer for
more details.

4. DRAWN ARC INSERT WELDING PROCESS

The drawn arc makes it possible to weld added parts (pulling ring, studs, nails, etc.) on a support part by bringing the
two parts into fusion by means of an electric arc and putting them both in contact.
Reminder of the drawn arc welding principle (for more details, refer to the ISO 14555 standard):
There are 4 main stages: priming, stripping, arcing and gripping
Phase
T (ms)
I(A)
Priming: the added part (pulling ring, studs, etc.) is brought into contact with the support plate. Pressing the trigger
starts the welding process: the generatorsends current to the stud, the axis of the gun rises slightly, a low intensity
electric arc is then created.
Stripping: this phase could also be called preheating. The generator regulates a current to ensure a low intensity
electric arc, the heat generated by this arc allows:
- to burn the impurities of the support plate (greases, oils, electrolytic galvanizing).
- to preheat the two parts, and therefore to limit the thermal shock of the welding arc, in order to improve the quality of
the weld.
During this phase, neither the added part nor the support plate melts. Likewise, this phase does not release the layer
of zinc from the galvanized sheet.
The arc: the generator significantly increases the current to create a very energetic arc creating a pool of fusion on
the support sheet and causing the end of the insert to melt.
The hook: The gun plunges the added part into the molten bath.

5. STUD PATTERN AND WELD POOL PROTECTION

The types of inserts (shape, dimensions, material) dedicated to the drawn arc are listed in the ISO 13918 standard. In
addition to inserts in low carbon steel, stainless steel and copper-plated steel, the product can also weld certain parts
reported in aluminum.
