Signal your intention to change lane or
turn in good time by using the turn
indicators and avoid sudden swerving
or movements.
Switch off the turn indicators as soon
as you have completed the turn.
Be extremely careful when passing or
being passed.
When riding in the rain, the spray
thrown up by the tires of large vehicles
will reduce your vision; the air wave
created by a large vehicle may make
you lose control of the vehicle.

RUNNING-IN

After the first 625 mi (1000 km), perform
the checks indicated in the column
"After running-in" of the REGULAR
SERVICE INTERVALS CHART (see page
53) in order to avoid causing injury to
yourself or others and/or damaging the
vehicle.
Correct engine running-is essential to
e n s u r i n g p r o p e r p e r f o r m a n c e a n d
durability.
Twisty, hilly roads are ideal for an effective
running-in of the engine, suspension and
brakes.
NOTE
Only after the first 312 mi (500
km) of running-in is it possible to obtain the
best speed and acceleration performance
from the vehicle.
Follow these recommendations:
Do not open the throttle completely if the
u
speed is low, both during and after the
running-in.
0-62 mi (0-100 km)
u
Until you have covered the first 62 mi
(100 km), use the brakes gently and
avoid hard, prolonged braking. This will
help the brake pads bed in properly
against the brake disks.
0-312 mi (0-500 km)
u
During the first 312 mi (500 km), do not
exceed 80% of the maximum allowed
speed.
Avoid driving at a constant speed for
u
long distances.
After the first 625 mi (1000 km), increase
u
the speed gradually until the bike
r e a c h e s t h e h i g h e s t l e v e l s o f
performance.

STOPPING

If you can, do not stop or slow down
suddenly and avoid limit-braking.
Release the throttle grip (pos. A) and
u
gradually put on the brakes to stop the
vehicle.
If you need to stop only briefly, keep at
u
least one brake applied.

PARKING

Park the vehicle on firm and level
ground to prevent it from falling.
Do not lean the vehicle against a wall or
lay it on the ground.
Make sure that the vehicle, and in
particular hot vehicle components, does
not put the safety of persons and
children at risk.
Do not leave the vehicle unattended
with the engine running or the key in the
ignition switch.
Do not sit on the vehicle when the stand
is down.
