ENGINE OIL LEVEL
Carefully read page 36 (LUBRICANTS),
page 51 (MAINTENANCE) and page 77
(LUBRICANT CHART).
It is critical to the safe operation of your
vehicle that the proper lubricants,
maintained at the proper levels, are
used.
Failure to heed this warning can lead to
an engine seizure with subsequent
accident, serious injury or death.
Always check the engine oil level when
the engine is hot. A cold engine could
cause the oil level to temporarily go
below "MIN".

CHECK
NOTE
Position the vehicle on firm and
flat ground.
Position the vehicle on the center stand.
u
The engine and the components of the
exhaust system become very hot and
remain hot for some time after the
engine has been stopped. Before
handling these components, wear
insulating gloves or wait until the
engine and the exhaust system have
cooled down.
Stop the engine and let it cool down, in
u
order to allow the oil to flow into the oil pan
and to cool down.
NOTE
Failure to perform the operations
described above may result in the incorrect
measurement of the engine oil level.
Slightly raise rider footpeg left pad.
u
Take down left passenger footrest.

Release the three screws (1) securing oil
u
inspection cover (2).
Remove the oil inspection cover (2) from
u
vehicle left-hand side.
Unscrew and extract the plug/dipstick
u
(1).
Clean the part in contact with the oil with
u
a clean cloth.
Tighten the plug/dipstick (3) completely,
u
screwing it into the filling hole (4).
Withdraw the plug/dipstick (3) again and
u
read the oil level on the dipstick itself:
MAX = maximum level
MIN = minimum level.
The difference between "MAX" and
"MIN" amounts to approximately 200
cu. cm.
The level is correct if the oil reaches
u
approx. the "MAX" mark on the dipstick.
Never exceed the "MAX" mark or let oil
level drop below the "MIN" mark, as this
may lead to severe engine damage.
If necessary, provide for topping up.
