4.3.4

Stripping the laser fiber/waveguide

First, shorten the laser fiber/waveguide using the ceramic knife (1, Fig. 4-2) by the length of the
contamination or the melting loss to achieve a defined fiber end.
The external coating (buffer) is removed at the distal laser fiber end across a length of about 3 cm using the
appropriate stripping tool (Fig. 4-1) as required by the thickness of the fiber at hand.

Insert the laser fiber end into the stripper by approx. 3 cm.
The stripping tool is marked in cm increments.
• Press together
• r the colorful grip keys (1).
• Pull the fiber out of the stripping tool in the direction of the
arrow (2).
• Remove the external coating (buffer) from the stripping tool.
The laser fiber stripped from the laser fiber end can now be
optically broken, see section 4.3.5 "Notching the laser fiber using
the ceramic knife", page 31 and section 4.3.6 "Optical breaking of
the laser fiber using the silicone mat", page 31.
