15. Breakage of looper/spreader
Cause
• The looper thread tenson s too hgh.
• The nstallng poston of the left-hand
spreader s ncorrect.
• Refer to "5. Needle thread breakage" for detals
on other causes and correctve measures.
• The needle nterferes wth looper, spreader, etc.
• The needle comes n contact wth the presser foot.
• The clearance between the needle and the
looper varies according to the turning angle (0˚,
90˚ and 180˚).
• The clearance between the needle and the needle
guard s too large or the needle and the needle
guard come n excessve contact wth each other.
• The heght of the needle bar has been
mproperly adjusted.
• The needle does not fit the kind of throat plate
(needle sze used).
• Needle thread s depressed by the presser foot
at the start of sewng.
• The left- and rght-hand sewng ptches at the
straght secton are dfferent from each other.
• The left- and rght-hand postons at the straght
secton are dfferent from each other.
• Sttches whch should be parallel are slant.
• The left- and rght-hand sde cloth openng
amounts are not equal.
• Improper adjustment of the knfe droppng poston
• There s shrnkage of cloth by sewng or step
dfference between left- and rght-hand sdes of cloth.

Corrective measure
• Adjust the sewng condtons to obtan an approprate
thread tenson.
• Check and adjust the nstallng poston.
• Adjust the clearance between the looper and the needle
properly. Adjust the tmng to open/close the spreaders properly.
• Check and adjust the clearance.
• Adjust the center of the needle.
• Check and adjust the clearance.
• Check and adjust the heght of the needle bar.
• Use the throat plate sutable for the needle.
• Increase the feedng amount of needle thread.
• Compensate the length by lengthwse compensaton of
left parallel secton of the data compensaton.
• Compensate the poston by lengthwse compensaton
of left eyelet of the data compensaton.
• Compensate the nclnaton by turnng compensaton of
parallel secton of the data compensaton.
• Adjust so that the left- and rght-hand sde cloth openng
amounts are equal.
• Check and adjust the knfe droppng poston.
• Indvdually set the left- and rght-hand sdes of cut
space.
• Set the turnng compensaton/parallel secton turnng compensaton.
• Set the eyelet crosswse compensaton/lengthwse compensaton.
• Check and adjust the knfe droppng poston.
• Correct the presser foot or replace t wth a new one.
• Replcae the throat plate wth the optonal one.
• Check the cut (eyelet) space and re-set t.
• Check the knfe droppng poston, and correct or adjust t.
• Indvdually set the left- and rght-hand sdes of cut
space.
• Grnd the knfe or replace t wth a new one.
• Check and adjust the stroke.
• Adjust the nstallng poston (clearance between needle
and knfe) of the knfe.

• Check and adjust the movng blade and the thread
separatng poston.
• Grnd the knfe or replace t wth a new one.
• Check and adjust the stroke.
• Check and adjust the tlt of the counter knfe.
• Check and adjust the movng blade and the thread
separatng poston.
• Adjust the knfe pressure.
• Correct the surface of the knfe holder wth ol stone or
the lke.
• Grnd the knfe or replace t wth a new one.
• Re-set the pressng amount (knfe pressure).
• Remove the chp.
• Set proper knfe pressure to each sewng product after
replacng the knfe.
• Adjust the center of the needle.
• Check and adjust the clearance.
• Use the throat plate sutable for the needle.
