- File a small flat in the output shaft of the electric motors 5.1.
- Attach the motors 5.1 to the motor bulkhead 5.3 using the
socket-head cap screws 5.2. Note the red dots next to the
positive terminals - see wiring diagram.
- Fit the insulating sleeves 5.6 and solder the capacitors 5.4
and 5.5 to the motors 5.1 as shown in the illustration.
- Complete the power system wiring as shown in the wiring
diagram, using the motor power cables 5.7. If you wire the
system correctly the motors will rotate in opposite directions.
- Fit the slotted sleeves 5.9 and the grubscrews 5.10 in the
brass coupling components 5.8 and slip the couplings on
the motor shafts (F).
- To avoid difficulties later when aligning the power system the
motors and shaft system should be installed temporarily at
this stage.
- First remove the rear hull section. Withdraw the base frame
and glue the motor assembly in place; note that the spacers
1.14 glued on both sides set the correct angle of inclination.
- File a flat in the propeller shafts 5.11 and screw the locknuts
5.12 on them (F).
- File out the bottom end of the lubricating tubes 5.13 (tubular
rivets) to match the stern tube diameter and solder them to
the stern tubes 5.14. Drill a 2.8 mm hole in the stern tube
through the rivet, and carefully remove all drilling swarf.
Push the lubricating hoses 5.15 onto the rivets and secure
them with pieces of heat-shrink sleeve 5.16.
- Fit the joint reinforcement 5.17 on the stern tubes and slide
the shafts into the stern tubes.
- Slip these assemblies through the rear cover and fit the cou-
pling components 5.8 / 5.10 on the shafts.
- Connect the couplings to the rubber coupling elements 5.18.
- Install the base frame again and hold the rear hull section in
position.
- Cut through the shaft brackets 5.19 at the moulded-in point
and trim them as shown in the drawing. Keep the scrap pie-

ces as they form the bracket supports 5.20.
- Fit the short stern tubes 5.21 in the shaft brackets and secu-
re them with cyano.
- Remove the nuts 5.12. Fit the shaft brackets on the shafts
and insert them in the holes in the stern section.
- Attach the shaft template W to the shaft ends using the four
nuts 5.12. Adjust the position of the shaft brackets if neces-
sary (F).
- Re-check the alignment of the rear hull section, using the
string as before, then tape it to the centre section (F).
- Slide the stern tubes 5.14 in and out and check that they
have sufficient clearance all round. If they jam at any point,
file back as necessary. This ensures that the shafts run fre-
ely when the model is assembled.
- Glue the shaft brackets in place by applying Stabilit-Express
inside and out (F).
- Trim the bracket supports 5.20 to fit and glue them in place
using cyano. Apply a fillet of Stabilit-Express where they
meet the hull.
- Very carefully slide the base frame out of the pressure ves-
sel by about 8 cm (F). Check alignment carefully, position
the stern tubes 5.14 and glue them before the rear bulkhead
1.13 to the base frame only. Leave the adhesive to set hard.
- Release the template W, remove the shafts and release the
rear hull section.
- Fit the lateral braces 5.22 and the bridge 5.23, secure these
parts with cyano and apply a generous fillet of Stabilit-
Express round the stern tubes (F).
- Apply Stabilit-Express generously to the stern tubes bet-
ween the joint reinforcements and the shoulder of the cover.
To ensure a sound joint and a good seal rotate the joint rein-
forcements as you push them over the shoulder of the
cover.
- Before you permanently install the ships's shafts 5.11 glue
the couplings in place. This is the procedure: Remove a
shaft and line up the coupling components 5.8 and 5,18 on
it. as shown in the sketch A; glue them in place with cyano.
- When assembling the parts install the 4 mm Ø collets 5.24
together with the grubscrews, as shown in sketch B.
