- Note: if possible use a pillar drill to drill the holes in the
covers.
- Drill a central 5.5 mm ø hole in the front cover (F).
- Glue the guide wedges 3.2 in place on both sides.
- Fit the cover and position it in line with the base frame.
- Mark the centreline on the cover from the pipe. Withdraw the
base frame again and glue the cover in place using Stabilit
Express. The joint must be completely watertight (F).
- Drill the 9 mm ø holes for the stern tubes in the rear cover
3.3, opening them up to size in stages. Drill the 6.5 mm ø
hole for the hydroplane pushrod (F).
- Drill an 8 mm hole for the valve. Fit the valve shaft 3.4, glue
it in place with Stabilit-Express and secure it with the nut 3.5.
- Fill the 3 mm ø hole in the middle of the cover with Stabilit-
Express.
- Glue the locating wedges 3.6 and the locating bridge 3.7 in
the cover, taking care to position them correctly relative to
the top and bottom. The opening in the locating bridge must
be on the right-hand side.

Trim the rear hull shells 4.1 as described for the centre sec-
tions and cut the openings for the slot masks (F).
- Drill 5 mm ø holes for the hydroplane bearings and shaft
brackets, and open up the holes in the shaft fairings to 10
mm ø. Drill and file out the slots for the shaft supports.
- Make up a drilling jig from the 3 mm ø collet SR and the M3
x 30 screw (7.2) to help you drill the holes for the rudders.
The same parts are required again later when you install the
rudder system (F).
- Measure off the fore-and-aft position of the rudder bush
holes and mark the correct point. Place the jig in the moul-
ded-in recess for the rudder bush, hold it against the screw
and drill a 3 mm ø hole right through. Repeat this procedu-
re on the other side. Carefully open up the holes to 5 mm
øfrom the outside.
- Trim the slot masks 4.2 and glue them in place.
- Cut the four locating strips 4.3 to size (F).
- Hold and tape the shells together, then apply a few drops of
cyano to tack-glue the joint.
- Apply a fillet of Stabilit-Express along the joint line. Glue the
locating strips 4.3 in place at the same time. Note that the
keel rail should project over the centre section.
- Glue the reinforcement 4.4 in the stern.
Assembly instructions
U 47
- Place the spacer Z on the locating bridge and glue the
clamp lug 3.8 in place using Stabilit-Express.
- Slide the rear cover onto the base frame, fit this assembly in
the pipe and mark the centreline on the cover using the pipe
as a reference.
- Fit the drilling template BS in the top of the cover, mark the
position of the two holes and open them up to 11 mm ø in
stages. The holes must lie parallel to the hull centreline.
- Measure off the position of the aerial socket and drill the 2
mm ø hole for it.
- Glue the connecting tubes 3.9 in the 11 mm ø holes.
- Tack the rear cover to the base frame using Stabilit-Express,
taking care that no glue gets onto the flange or in the holes.
Slide the assembly into the pipe, stand it upright on the
valve shaft and make sure that it cannot fall over, then leave
the glue to set really hard (F).
- Withdraw the rear cover assembly and apply plenty of glue
to all joints, working neatly and thoroughly.

- Place the hull centre section on the table. Hold the rear hull
section against it and pack it up with the shaft template W
(F).
- Check that the centre and rear sections of the hull line up
correctly: this is done by running a length of string from the
centre of the conning tower bulkhead and the rear deck
bulkhead to the stern.
- Check that the joint line between the rear and centre hull
sections is snug and accurate.
- Tape the rear hull section to the centre section.
- Fit temporary jig strips to the rear half-formers 4.5 - 4.7 as
shown and install them. Trim the slotted aft deck 4.8 and
position it flush with the rear edge of the main deck 2.16.
- Install the half-formers as already described, and mark their
position on both sides of the deck joint flange. Glue the half-
former 4.5 in place. Push the reinforcements 4.9 into the
half-formers 4.6 and 4.7 and glue these assemblies in place.
Remove the jig strips.
- Glue the packing pieces 4.10 to the reinforcements.
- Sand the deck support surface perfectly flat (F).
- Drill a 6 mm ø hole in the rear hull section for access to the
hydroplane lever.
