If the tire has an inner tube, once the upper bead has been demounted, bring the
horizontal slide clear and remove the inner tube before demounting the lower bead.
9.6. MOUNTING THE WHEEL
EXPLOSION HAZARD. Always check that the tyre/rim combination is correct in terms
of compatibility (tubeless tyre on tubeless rim, tube type tyre on tube type rim) and
geometrical size (keying diameter, cross-section width, Off-Set and shoulder profile)
before mounting.
AVOID PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.
Also check that rims are not deformed, that their fixing holes have not become oval, that
they are not encrusted or rusty and that they do not have sharp burrs on the valve holes.
Check that the tyre is in good condition with no signs of damage.
- Apply a liberal amount of tire manufacturer ap-
proved rubber lubricant to both beads before
attempting the mounting operation (Fig.25). Lu-
bricated beads require much less force to mount/
seat and are protected against torsional damage.

NOTICE
DANGER
- Place the tire on the rim and bring the swing arm
into its operating position. Position the bottom
bead (as shown in Figure 26) so that it is above
the rear portion of the mount/demount head and
below the front portion.
- Depress the table top pedal
clockwise rotation and thus mount the bead. Use
the wheel's drop centre by pushing down on the
sidewall opposite the head (as shown in Figure
26) to reduce tensional force on the bead as the
26
wheel rotates.
