Primary/Secondary Operation
Up to twenty paralleled instruments can be connected in a primary/secondary configuration. All units
must have the same voltage rating but current ratings can be different. All units must have the same
version firmware installed. Refer to
configuration procedure for primary/secondary operation is as follows:
Configure one unit as the primary
l
Configure the other units as secondary units with unique bus addresses
l
Select the connection mode and auto-connect delay time
l
Perform a one-time discovery on the primary - it saves the primary/secondary configuration
l
At power-on, the primary can connect to the secondary units automatically or manually
l
If the primary/secondary configuration is subsequently changed, it needs to be re-discovered
l
Primary/Secondary Configuration
Configure each paralleled instrument as either a Primary or Secondary.
Front Panel Menu Reference
Select System\Group\Function
In the dialog box, select either Primary, Secondary, or
None. Then press Select.
If the unit is the primary, a delay may be programmed to allow the secondary units enough time to
boot up before the primary auto-connects to the secondary. If there is a delay in powering up the
secondary units, the primary auto-connect may fail. "None" is for non-paralleled operation. Do not
connect units configured as None to the primary/secondary bus; this may cause a CSF fault.
Front Panel Menu Reference
Select System\Group\Delay
In the dialog box, set the auto-connect delay.
Then press Select.
If the unit is a secondary, each secondary unit must be assigned a unique bus address (from 1 - 19).
Front Panel Menu Reference
Select System\Group\Secondary
In the dialog box, select the address of the secondary unit.
Values can range from 1 - 19. Then press Select.
Specify the primary unit's connection mode.
