How to use an Ohmmeter
During diagnostic procedures, a check of the continuity of the electrical circuits must be performed. This is
done using an Ohmmeter. In order to correctly initialise the instrument, follow the instructions below
1. In some older Ohmmeters, there is usually a plastic screw at the centre of the instrument, exactly under
the needle indicating the measurement. The needle moves by turning this screw. Turn the screw until the
needle is positioned at the "0" shown on the far left of the scale (Fig. 23);
2. Make sure that there are batteries in the instrument;
3. Connect the measuring cables to the instrument. If the cables are not equipped with alligator clips, have
them installed;
4. Connect the alligator clips to each other (Fig. 24). The measurement needle should move towards the far
right of the measurement scale.
A. Precision adjustment, B. Measurement scale adjuster.
The instrument with the lead wires connected must have the needle positioned on the far right of the
measurement scale.
NOTE: If using a digital ohmmeter, calibrate the instrument based on the manufacturer's
specifications.
