• to turn over the tempo™ 3 tensioner ; the arrow must always be
pointing in the direction of the anchor line, tensioned and secu-
red at the end by the connector,
• to use a lifeline which has stopped a fall, without the device
having been inspected and tested after a fall by the manufactu-
rer or an authorized repair agent,
• to use another anchor line, other than the anchor line compati-
ble with the tempo™ 3 tensioner,

• to use an anchor line showing any defects, knots or visible
signs of damage,
• to use a device for more than twelve months without having had
it checked by the manufacturer or a repair company authorised
by him.
• to use a tensioner other than the tempo™ 3 tensioner certified
by Tractel®,
• to use the lifeline for a length exceeding 18 m between the
anchor points (Fig. 4),
• to use a lifeline if the vertical clearance is insufficient. See table
2 (normal use after a fall) and 1 (restricted use). See §
"Definition",
• to use a lifeline if the anchor points are of insufficient strength
or considered as being of insufficient strength,
• to use a lifeline if at least one of the two anchor points is damaged,
• to use a lifeline if, during a fall, the user(s) risk hitting an obstacle,
• to use a lifeline if the user(s) has not read and understood this
manual,
• to use a lifeline at temperatures exceeding +50°C or below
-40°C or in an aggressive chemical environment,
• to connect two lifelines with no intermediate anchor point (Fig. 4),
• to use a light alloy connector as a mobile anchor point,
• to use an abrasive connector as a mobile anchor point,
• to use a lifeline positioned at the user's feet (Fig. 5),
• to install and use a tempo™ 3 lifeline without first having deter-
mined an efficient and safe rescue procedure should a rescue
operation be necessary.
Permissible attachments
The tempo™ 3 lifeline is a component of a horizontal fall-arrest
system which must comply with standard EN 363 and which must
comprise :
• 1) two anchor devices complying with standard EN 795,
• 2) a tempo™ 3 lifeline complying with standard EN 795 class B,
• 3) a first connector, used as mobile anchor point, complying
with standard EN 362,
• 4) a fall-arrester complying with standard EN 353.2 / EN 355 /
EN 360,
• 5) a lanyard complying with standard EN354 (restricted use not
allowing risk of fall), table No. 20,
• 6) a fall arrest harness satisfying the requirements of standard
EN 361.
All other associations are forbidden.
A fall-arrest harness EN361 is the only safety harness which
can be used in a fall-arrest system.
In all utilization situations, you must combine the deflection of
the tempo™ 3 lifeline (in accordance with its length and the
number of users (tables 1 and 2), and the maximum fall distan-
ce recommended by the manufacturer of the fall-arrester used.
In accordance with European specifications, each of the compo-
nents attached together, numbered from 1) to 6) above, marke-
ted by Tractel®, has received CE marking, as a result of an EC
type-examination, and has been subject to production quality
control.

employee or similar person must apply the health and safety at
work regulations.
Within the European Union, these devices must be checked per-
iodically in accordance with the 89/656/EEC Directive dated
30/11/89 (i.e. at least once a year, by TRACTEL® S.A.S or by a
TRACTEL® S.A.S. authorised repair company).
Marking
The marking on each product indicates:
a: the trade mark: Tractel®;
b: the designation of the product: e.g. tempo™ 3;
c: the referenced standard: number and year of the norm
d: the reference of the product code: Group code – the "EC"
marking designates that the equipment complies with the
requirements of the 89/686/EEC PPE Directive. "0197" indi-
cates the number of the notified body under Article 11;

h: a pictogram indicating that it is necessary to read the instruc-
tion manual before use;

Definitions
Table No.1 : restricted use
The values indicated in table No. 1 indicate the deflection and
the forces measured following suspension of one, two or three
persons, in accordance with the length of the tempo™ 3 lifeline
installed in compliance with this manual.
The "restricted" principle can only be considered provided the
risk of a fall is made impossible. In this case, the lifeline and the
fall-arrest components are used as movement limiters. These
must be installed in a way to prevent the user(s) from taking the
step leading to a fall.
Table No.2 : normal use after a fall
The values indicated in table No. 2 indicate the deflection and
the forces measured following a fall by one, two or three per-
sons, in accordance with the length of the tempo™ 3 lifeline
installed in compliance with this manual.
