1.5. Employee Training
1. The employer is responsible for providing a training program for all employees work-

• The employer must ensure that no employees work on wheels unless they have received
suitable training regarding the correct maintenance procedures for the type of wheel be-
ing serviced and the relative safety procedures, and are specifi cally appointed to do so.
• Information to be used in the training programme shall include, at a minimum, the ap-
plicable information contained in this manual.
2. The employer is required to ensure that all employees meet the requisites for working
safely on wheels, which includes the following activities:
• Demounting tyres (including defl ation).
• Inspecting and identifying rim wheel components.
• Tyre mounting.

service rim wheels safely, and shall provide additional training as necessary to assure
that each employee maintains his or her profi ciency.
1.6. Pre-Use Checks
Before beginning work, carefully check that all components of the machine, especially
rubber or plastic parts, are in place, in good condition and working properly. If the inspec-
tion reveals any damage or excessive wear, no matter how slight, immediately replace
or repair the component.
1.7. During Use
In the event you hear any strange noise or feel unusual vibration, if a component or
system is not operating properly, or if there is anything unusual at all, stop using the
machine immediately.
• Identify the cause and take any necessary remedial action.
• Contact your supervisor if necessary.
Make sure that all other people are positioned at least 6 metres (20 feet) from the machine.
To stop the machine in an emergency:
• disconnect the power supply plug;
• interrupt the compressed air supply by disconnecting the supply pipe.
