Automatic functions
The unit has the automatic functions described below.
Automatic power ON
The unit's power is automatically turned on when а
cassette tape is inserted.
Automatic playback
When a cassette tape without its accidental erasure
prevention
tab
is
inserted,
playback
starts
straightaway.
Automatic rewinding
When the tape reaches its end during playback or
recording,
it is automatically
rewound
to
the
beginning. (This does not happen with OTR and timer
recording.)
Ejection of cassette when power is turned off
Even when the power is off, it can be turned on by
pressing the EJECT
button, and the cassette
is
automatically ejected.
After the cassette has been
ejected, the power is automatically turned off.
Auto head cleaning
Tape particles and dust are removed from the video
heads to ensure the best picture quality at all times.
This function is activated when a cassette tape is
inserted and when it is ejected.
A mechanical noise
may be heard while this function is working: this is
normal and not indicative of a malfunction.

Index search
The first position on a recording where the index
(VISS) signal is provided can be located speedily.
The
index
signal
is automatically
recorded,
and
"WRITE" appears on the display for several seconds
in the following cases.
e When the recording is started by the REC button
e When the REC button is pressed during recording
e When timer recording or OTR recording is started
The index signals can be used to access up to 20
specific scenes
in both the forward
and reverse
directions.
Preparation:
Press the PLAY button or STOP button.
Example:
Accessing
the second
picture
in the forward
direction
Operation:
Press the INDEX
[P]
button twice to input the
number of the index signal.
Normal playback is started when the input index
signal is reached.
e Press the INDEX [<< button to access a picture
which was recorded in the reverse direction.

Notes:
e An interval of at least 3 minutes with 2H (standard
mode) recording or at least 5 minutes with 6H (triple
mode) recording must be left between two index
signals.
€ The search may not work properly if there is a long
blank (unrecorded) section or if a cassette which
has been repeatedly recorded is used.
