This equipment should be installed and serviced by technically qualified personnel who are familiar
with the correct selection and use of appropriate tools, equipment, and procedures.
Moisture Sensor
When the system is equipped with an optional Franklin Electric Moisture Sensor, the
drive stops pumping and displays Fault 25 if the sensor detects the presence of water.
The Moisture Sensor connects to the Wet Sensor terminal block.
NOTE: This does not replace the need for a pressure relief valve in the system. Refer
to
"Accessories" on page 52
Moisture Sensor Kit.
Over Temperature Foldback
The system is designed for full power operation in ambient temperatures up to 104 °F (40 °C) at nominal
input voltage. Operating the drive above 104 °F (40 °C) ambient will result in reduced product life and sys-
tem performance. In high temperature conditions (above 104 °F/40 °C), the drive reduces output power in
an attempt to avoid shutdown or damage while still trying to provide water. A thermometer icon is shown in
the drive display when the drive is in Over Temperature Foldback mode. Full output power is restored when
the internal drive temperature cools to a safe operating level.
NOTE: Motor over-temperature sensing is not provided by the drive.
Motor Slow Start
When the drive detects that water is being used, the drive starts and increases the motor speed gradually,
increasing voltage, resulting in a cooler motor and lower start-up current compared to conventional water
systems. In situations where the demand for water is small, the system may cycle on and off at low speed.
Because of the slow start feature, this will not harm the motor or the pressure sensor.
Motor Overload Protection
The drive electronics provide motor overload protection by preventing motor current from exceeding the
maximum Service Factor Amps (SFA) programmed in settings.
Broken Pipe Protection
When DIP switch 1-6 is enabled, the Broken Pipe Detection feature will stop the system and display Fault 14
if the drive runs at full speed without reaching the configured broken pipe pressure setpoint.
For example, if the feature is enabled and the pressure is set to 25 psi. Then, if the VFD runs at full speed with
pressure less than 25 psi for 10 minutes, the VFD will stop and fault on Broken Pipe F14. Manual reset is required.
If the system is used with a sprinkler system or is being used in an other high-flow system, this protection
feature should be disabled.
This feature can also be enabled and adjusted using the SubDrive Connect Plus mobile app.
