General notes

a) Yarn brake
To obtain more or less soft cones, use the yarn tensioners on the front of the machine
(2-4 fi g.8). Remember that when the yarn brakes are raised, the braking effect is re-
duced, and vice-versa. The yarn brakes can be cut out altogether by raising and turning
the top plate, and can be easily disassembled for cleaning operations.
The machine kit includes a special over-size spring to replace the one mounted in the
fi rst yarn brake when especially fi rm cones are required. This is normally used in cone-
to-cone winding when, even though the yarn is threaded behind the fi rst tensioner, the
cone is not fi rm enough. Remember that the higher the speed, the fi rmer the cones.
Note also that over-waxing will brake the yarn.
b) Slubcatching
In order to regulate the slub catcher, turn the numbered dial (3 fi g.8) to fi nd the best
opening for the yarn count (6 fi g.8).
The machine is confi gured for using the Uster slub catcher.
c) Waxing
The amount of waxing can be increased by adding weights 1/2 under the waxer (10 fi g.8).
d) Winding
Both in twisting and winding mode, the yarn must run through the ring (7 fi g.8) at the
right of the restraint (5 fi g.8) behind the fi rst yarn brake (4 fi g.8). If waxing is not re-
quired, use the plate with the square hole provided with the machine.
The recommended crossover angle for cone-to-cone winding is 2 (13°).
e) Cone-stop when the required diameter has been reached.
The cone stop microswitch is normally positioned so as to stop the head when the
cone has reached maximum diameter.
To stop winding before this diameter is reached, adjust the microswitch (11 fi g.8) posi-
tion.
f) Counterweight
When working with extra slippery yarn, turn the counterweight forward.
