6.1.3 recommended initial pressure settings
warning! initial pressure settings are based on experience and should be used
only as guidelines. the surgeon is responsible for setting pressures appropriate
to the surgical procedure.
Initial recommended joint pressure settings for various joints are provided in Table 5 .
nOte: Recommended pressures are based on use of the recommended standard high flow
6 mm outside diameter (OD) arthroscope sheath. It is also assumed that the pump is at the
same elevation as the joint, or that an elevation correction is used to accommodate a difference
in joint-to-pump elevation (refer to Section 6.6.1). When using a smaller arthroscope sheath
than recommended, the joint pressure will be lower than the displayed pressure, and further
adjustment will be the responsibility of the surgeon.
nOte: Recommended joint pressures in Table 5 are generally in the range of 50-70 mmHg.
The lower value of 50 mmHg is recommended to maintain low extravasation, while the higher
value of 70 mmHg is recommended to reduce risk of bleeding.
