Magnetic Tape – Incremental Magnetically Coded Position Measuring System
4
Installation (continued)
4.3
Fastening the tape to a flat surface
Observe the alignment of the tape to the sensor
head!
1. Mark the reference edge of the tape on the machine
part (Fig. 4-4, A).
2. Thoroughly clean (e.g. with quick rubbing alcohol) the
fixing surface for the magnetic tape to remove all oil,
grease, dust, etc. and let it dry completely.
3. On a magnetic tape with reference point, identify the
front and rear end: The first reference point is marked
and is on the right side of the magnetic tape in its own
track (see Fig. 4-1). This can also be identified using a
pole pitch card.
For the system to function, the reference track of the
tape must lie on the right side of the sensor head
(Fig. 4-4).
Front and rear alignment is not required if the magnetic
tape does not have a reference point.
4. Pull back the film from the back end of the tape
(Fig. 4-4, B), align the tape and lightly attach the tape
(Fig. 4-4, C).
5. Remove another section of film (Fig. 4-4, D), align the
tape and gently press down (Fig. 4-4, E).
6. Check for correct alignment as soon as the entire tape
is affixed and press the tape down firmly.
NOTICE!
Tools and magnetic materials
Pressing down on the magnetic tape with hard tools or
working with magnetic materials can damage the
magnetic surface.
► Only use your hand or a soft tool.
► Do not use any magnetic materials.
7. Fasten the tape ends (see Fig. 4-5).
8. Optional: To protect the magnetic tape from
mechanical and chemical influences, affix the stainless
steel cover strip (see section 4.5).
