Install high-voltage wire "I" in the vehicle
F 36 82 1298 R
Preassemble support clips (1) with spacers (2) and
hexagon head screws 5.5 x 18 mm on angle
brackets 9 (4) and 13 (3).
Fit together angle brackets 9 (4) and 13 (3) with the
hexagon head screw M5 x 12 mm and hexagon
nut M5 (5) and tighten. Insert high-voltage wire "I"
in the support clips (1) and adjust.
F 36 82 1299 R
Preassemble support clip (1) and spacer (2) with
hexagon head screw 5.5 x 18 mm (3) on angle
bracket 16 (4).
Screw angle bracket 16 (4) with hexagon head
screw M5 x 12 mm (7) and hexagon nut M5 (6) to
reinforcement cross (5), adjust and tighten.
Insert high-voltage wire "I" in the support clip (1)
and adjust.
Screw preassembled bracket (9) on to the coarse-
threaded bolt (8) of the left engine support with the
speed nut and tighten it.
Place pre-made connecting line for high voltage (10)
on the connection clamp (11) of the high-voltage
wire "I" using pointed pliers.
Install connecting line for high voltage (10) via the
mounting supports of the front axle housing (12)
forwards to high-voltage wire "D1" and place on
connection clamp (13) using pointed pliers.
Fix connecting line for high voltage (10) to the front
mounting support of the front axle housing (12)
using a cable tie.
Install high-voltage wire "H" in the vehicle
F 36 82 1296 R
Preassemble support clips (1) with spacers (2) and
hexagon head screws 5.5 x 18 mm (3) on angle
brackets 5 (4) and 16 (7).
Screw angle bracket 5 (4) with hexagon head
screw M5 x 12 mm (7) and hexagon nut M5 (5) to
reinforcement cross (6), adjust and tighten.
Screw angle bracket 16 (7) on to the coarse-
threaded bolt (8) of the right engine support with
the speed nut, adjust and tighten it.
Insert high-voltage wire "H" in the support clips (1)
and adjust.
F 36 82 1297 R
Place pre-made connecting line for high voltage (1)
on the connection clamp (3) of the high-voltage
wire "H" using pointed pliers.
Install connecting line for high voltage (1) via the
mounting supports of the front axle housing (5)
forwards to high-voltage wire "D1" and place on
connection clamp (2) using pointed pliers. Fix
connecting line for high voltage (1) to the front
mounting support of the front axle housing (5)
using a cable tie.

15. Install underside panelling and
protection plate for all vehicles
Only vehicles with M44 engine and manual
gearbox
F 36 82 1278 R
Screw underside panelling (1) loosely in the
vehicle. Insert high-voltage wire "C" in the support
clips of the underside panelling (1) and adjust it.
F 36 82 1280 R
Install protection plate (1) in vehicle again (in doing
so draw underside panelling (2) down a little). Insert
cover (3) from the oil drain plug in the underside
panelling (2). Screw on hexagon-head self-tapping
screw 4.8 x 16 mm (4) and speed nut (5), adjust
and tighten.
Tighten all mounting screws of the underside
panelling (2).
Only M roadster with S50 engine
F 36 82 1279 R
Place connecting line for high voltage (2) coming
from high-voltage wire "B" on high-voltage wire
"B.A" on the front connection clamp using pointed
pliers. Fit underside panelling (1) to vehicle again
and tighten all screws.
16. Function test of the marten
protection system
Do not touch high-voltage wires when the
system is activated!
Procedure
- Close bonnet of vehicle (as an option, the
closed bonnet can be simulated by withdrawing
the pressure pin on the bonnet contact switch).
- Put ignition key at position "0"
- Raise vehicle with autohoist
- Create spark discharge gap of approx. 2 mm
with screwdriver or similar between high-voltage
wire and the body.
A visible spark must jump to ground at intervals of
approx. 1 - 1.5 seconds. (Carry out individual tests
for each wire).
The function must be deactivated when the bonnet
is opened (bonnet contact switch at middle
position) or from ignition key position "R".
If there is any malfunction, check all wires for
sufficient clearance from the body and carry out
function check (see Chapter 7).
