General
The Sonopuls 490 and 491 are portable microcom-
puter-controlled units for ultrasound therapy. The
large display, with surrounding the operating keys,
adds to a clear display of the parameter settings.
The Sonopuls 491 offers both ultrasound therapy
and electrotherapy, which can be combined. The
units are battery powered and can thus operate in-
dependently of the mains power supply. The light
weight and compact dimensions of the unit make it
suitable for many applications, e.g. for the treatment
of patients at home.
We would like to draw your attention to the fact
that all text parts regarding to electrotherapy and
combination therapy are not applicable for the
Sonopuls 490.
Therapeutic possibilities
By using continuous and pulsed ultrasound (1 or
3MHz as desired) it is possible to achieve muscle
relaxation and pain reduction and also to improve
the blood perfusion and recovery ability of tissue.
The Sonopuls 491 offers a choice of three current
types:
•
two-pole interferential current: amplitude modu-
lated medium-frequency alternating current;
•
asymmetrical biphasic pulsed current (TENS);
•
medium-frequency direct current (duty cycle
95%), strongly galvanic character).
Depending on the selected current type, electro-
therapy can be applied for muscle stimulation, pain
control by stimulation of nerve tissue and iontophore-
sis.
As the output characteristic of the electrotherapy
channel can be switched, at choice, between Con-
stant Current (CC) or Constant Voltage (CV), the
Sonopuls 491 is also suitable for dynamic electrode
applications.
The use of the combination key allows any desired
combination of ultrasound and electrotherapy cur-
rent type to be selected.
The therapeutic possibilities include: localisation and
treatment of trigger points, hyperaesthetic areas,
dermatomes and myotomes.
(For further information, please refer to the therapy
books, which can be ordered separately).
Programs
The Sonopuls offers the possibility of storing fre-
quently used settings (maximum 10) in the compu-
ter memory. These programs remain stored, even if
there is an interruption in the main electricity supply.
A special memory (program "0") facility can ensure
that, after switching on, the unit automatically sets
itself to the most frequently used current type.
Design
In the design of the Sonopuls, more attention than
ever has been paid to ease of operation, appear-
ance, functionality and safety.
The result is a unit that combines a logical operating
sequence, supported by a clear display, with a mod-
ern appearance and compact dimensions. The wide
range of possible applications, together with the as-
surance of optimum safety for patient and user (the
Sonopuls fully complies with the IEC 601-1 stand-
ards) make the Sonopuls a product of the highest
quality.
The battery
The Sonopuls is a battery-powered unit. Ensure that
the battery is always adequately charged so that the
unit is always ready for use, even in unexpected situ-
ations. The working life of the battery is maximised
if the unit is always stored with an adequately
charged battery. The battery is maintenance free.
The Sonopuls was designed to be battery operated
during the whole day, under normal circumstances.
We advice you to switch off the unit when it is not
used. If mains power is available, use the unit as far
as possible with the charger connected, as this saves
the battery. During charging of the battery, the unit
can be used.
Multi-frequency treatment head
The Multi-frequency treatment head of the Sonopuls
can supply both 1 and 3 MHz ultrasound. The heads
are available with a large and small treatment sur-
face. These treatment heads are also suitable for
subaqual treatments. The excellent beam charac-
teristics, ergonomic design and effective contact
control of the multi frequency treatment heads make
an optimal treatment possible.
Finally
You have made a wise choice in selecting the
Sonopuls 490 or Sonopuls 491. We are confident
that your unit will continue to give satisfaction over
many years of use. Nevertheless, if you have any
queries or suggestions, please contact us or our
representative / distributor in your area.
