1.1. General
Dit apparaat is bedoeld voor gebruik door vakkundig
personeel in de fysiotherapie, revalidatie en
aangrenzende gebieden. The Radarmed 650+ is a
unit for continuous and pulsed microwave therapy
with a frequency of 2450 MHz (12 cm wavelength).
Safe dosage control based on the patient's sensitiv-
ity to heat is a big advantage of microwave therapy.
Microwave therapy can easily be applied thanks to
the unipolar application. Three different radiators are
sufficient for all applications occurring in daily practice.
1.2. Therapy possibilities
The therapeutic effect of warmth has been put to use
ever since the earliest beginning of medical science.
The Radarmed 650+ is extremely suitable for local-
ized application of warmth to deep located tissues.
The Radarmed 650+ operates at a frequency of 2450
MHz, corresponding to a wavelength of 12 cm. At
this wavelength, the high-frequency energy is ab-
sorbed particularly well in every kind of tissues con-
taining a high percentage of water.
The possibilities of microwave therapy is significantly
widened by the use of the pulsed mode. In this mode,
microwave pulses with a fixed, high intensity are
generated. In contrast with continuous microwave
the higher intensity of the pulses briefly warms up
the deeper lying tissues. At the same time, the same
dosage rules can be used as for treatment with con-
tinuous microwave, since the sensation of warmth
felt by the patient is the same with either form of
treatment. Pulsed microwave can be used is cases
where only a low dosage is permissible, but never-
theless deeper lying regions have to be reached.
1.3. Radiators
Local field radiator
The local field radiator enables greater depth effects
to be obtained over smaller areas. It is the most uni-
versal and therefore most used radiator.
Longitudinal radiator
The longitudinal radiator is designed for the treat-
ment of the extremities.
Large field radiator
The large field radiator is used for treating large ar-
eas of the body. The form of the radiator is adapted
to the contours of the body. This radiator is very
suitable for treating isolated areas such as the shoul-
der or knee joint, as well as larger muscle groups in
the back and shoulder regions.
1. INTRODUCTION
1.4. Finally
You have made a wise choice in selecting the
Radarmed 650+. We are confident that your unit
will continue to give satisfaction over many years of
use. Nevertheless, if you have any queries or sug-
gestions, please contact your authorised distribu-
tor.
2. PRELIMINARY NOTES
It is important that you read these operating instruc-
tions carefully before using the Radarmed 650+.
Please make sure that these instructions are avail-
able to all personnel who operates the equipment.
Pay attention to the following before using the
Radarmed 650+:
1. Keep yourself informed of the contra-indications
(see chapter 4).
2. The apparatus may not be used in close proxim-
ity (i.e. less than 2 metres) to shortwave equip-
ment.
3. The apparatus may not be used in so-called "wet
rooms" (hydrotherapy rooms).
The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for the
results of using this apparatus for any purposes other
than described in these operating instructions.
3.1. Safety
The safety of the unit is guaranteed by a built in
microprocessor which monitors all important func-
tions of the unit, every 50 seconds. If during treat-
ment the HF-cable is mistakenly disconnected (from
apparatus or radiator), the unit automatically
switches of the HF-power and 3 beeps of 1 second
is audible. Continuation of the treatment is possible
by setting a new intensity after the connection is re-
stored.
3.2. Product Liability
A law on Product Liability has become effective in
many countries. This Product Liability law implies,
amongst other things, that once a period of 10 years
has elapsed after a product has been brought into
circulation, the manufacturer can no longer be held
responsible for possible shortages of the product.
