6. To select English, press the "30" pressure selection button. To view
the next two language choices, press the "200" pressure selection button
until the desired language is displayed. Press the appropriate pressure
selection button that is displayed next to the desired language. The
available languages are:
40 = DEUTSCH
50 = FRANÇAIS
60 = ITALIANO
70 = ESPAÑOL
80 = PORTUGUÊS

7. Each time the power is turned on, the programmer display will return
automatically to the selected language.
8. To change the language again, it is necessary to turn the power off, then
on again. Press the "30" pressure selection button as soon as the initial
screen is displayed:

Then follow Steps 5 and 6 above.
Preimplantation Programming Familiarization Procedure
To become familiar with valve programming, perform the following
preimplantation programming procedure while the valve remains in the blister
package. It is highly advisable to program the valve before it is implanted,
both for ease of programming and to provide immediate visual confirmation
of the correct pressure setting.
1. Follow Steps 1 through 4 of the Programmer Initialization and Language
Selection Procedure to set up the equipment and turn on the power. The
LCD panel will illuminate and display the following message:
PRESSURE
2. Select the desired pressure setting by pushing the appropriate pressure
selection button on the front panel. The programmer will emit a beep sound;
the corresponding blue LED will illuminate and the lamps on the transmitter
will illuminate. At the same time, the display will change to:
POSITION
TRANSMITTER
PRESS START
3. Place the transmitter's four prongs in the four depressions in the blister
around the inlet valve. Point the arrow on the transmitter in the same
direction as the arrow on the blister (the direction of flow). Look through
the illuminated center hole of the transmitter to verify that the inlet valve is
centered in the opening.
4. Push the transmitter's START button. The LCD panel message will
change to:
PROGRAMMING
5. During programming, the pressure selector buttons light sequentially until
the selected pressure setting is attained.
6. When programming is completed (approximately 2 seconds), the
programmer will emit a long beep sound and the display will change to:
PROGRAMMING
COMPLETE

7. After a short wait, the LCD panel will change to the original message
once again:
PLEASE

PRESSURE
NOTE: After several programming attempts, the transmitter may
become warm and will signal the need to cool down by displaying the
following message:
TRANSMITTER
COOLING
PLEASE WAIT
Allow the transmitter to cool before proceeding. When the transmitter
is ready, the programmer will display the following message:
PLEASE
SELECT
PRESSURE
NOTE: If the above message does not appear within one hour, it could be a
sign of a damaged transmitter. Return the transmitter for repair. Also see the
section entitled "The Effect of Ambient Temperature on Valve Programming".
Postimplantation Programming Procedure
1. Follow Steps 1 through 4 of the Programmer Initialization and Language
Selection Procedure to set up the equipment and turn on the power. The
LCD panel will illuminate and display the following message:
PLEASE
SELECT
PRESSURE
2. Select the desired pressure setting by pushing the appropriate pressure
selection button on the front panel. The programmer will emit a beep sound;
the corresponding blue LED will illuminate and the lamps on the transmitter
will illuminate. At the same time, the display will change to:
POSITION
TRANSMITTER
PRESS START
3. NOTE: It is not necessary to shave the scalp for this procedure.
Palpate the scalp to locate the implanted valve; specifically, the inlet valve.
A fluoroscopic screen may assist in this process. Place the tip of the left
forefinger precisely over the inlet valve, keeping the index finger parallel to
the valve system and pointing in the direction of flow (see Figure 5).
4. Place the transmitter's four prongs around the inlet valve so that the
prongs are sitting on the scalp. The arrows on the transmitter should be
parallel to the forefinger and pointing in the direction of flow (Figure 6).
5. Center the transmitter so that the illuminated opening is directly above the
nail of the index finger (Figure 7).
6. Push the transmitter's START button. The LCD panel message will
change to:
PROGRAMMING
