1. Before using the Stopfor™, to ensure that it is operated safely
and efficiently, it is essential that users read this manual,
understand its contents in full, and comply absolutely with its
instructions.
2. This manual must be kept in good condition, until the device
is taken out of service, and must be made available to all
operators. Additional copies can be supplied on request.
3. The information marked on the device (see "Marking" section)
must remain totally legible. If this information is erased, the

device must be permanently removed from use.
4. The Stopfor™ is a fall arrest safety system component, which
must only be used in combination with other components that
are compatible with one another and with the Stopfor™, and
which comply with the applicable safety regulations and
standards, in particular standard EN 363.
5. The Stopfor™ can only be used by one single trained and
competent person, or under the supervision of such person.
The principle of any such training must include the procedure
to adopt in the event of a fall by the user. It should also inclu -
de a demonstration as to how to set up and operate the
Stopfor™ on a full system, taking example of an actual ope -
rating situation and using the appropriate safety measures.
6. It is essential to follow the instructions for attaching
equipment together to form the protection system, as detailed
in this manual and in the instructions supplied with the other
equipment attached to it.
7. In particular, each Stopfor™ should be exclusively assem bled
on a flexible anchor line, the specifications of which must
be strictly identical to those of the Tractel
commercialised for the Stopfor™ʼs corresponding model.
The non-compliance of this requirement can put the userʼs life
at grave risk. It is thus the responsibility of the user, or of his
employer, to take stock of the available anchor lines to
prevent any mistake in this regard.
8. Tractel
®
imposes the use of a Tractel
declines full responsibility for using a Stopfor™ with any
anchor line other than that of Tractel
indicated for the Stopfor™ʼs corresponding model. Further -
more, Tractel
can only guarantee a fall-prevention system, if

it is exclusively comprised of components commercialised,
serviced, assembled and set up, in accordance with the
applicable safety measures and standards.
9. Tractel

accepts no responsibility for the operation of a
Stopfor™ which has been dismantled other than under its
control, in particular in the event of the replacement of original
parts with parts from another source.
10. Any modification or addition to the equipment can be done
only upon prior written approval from Tractel
used with a belay support marked EN 353-2.
11. Prior to using the Stopfor™, the user, or the authority in
charge of his safety, shall have verified the solidity of the
anchor lineʼs fastenings, in accordance with the rules and
standards in force.
12. Never use a Stopfor™ or an anchor line that is not in appa -
rent good order. Prior to each use, the user should manually
test the functioning of the Stopfor™ on its anchor line (see
"Tests prior to use" chapter). Any damaged Stopfor™ must be

13. All S, A, AP, M Stopfor™ models must only be used on a
vertically suspended anchor line, or where the maximum

used on a vertical belay support, or on a support forming
a maximum angle of 30° with respect to the vertical.

on a roof deck with a maximum angle of 20° with respect to
the hip of the roof deck (see figure 4, page 2).
15. Any stopfor™ having prevented a fall, or the security of which
is questioned, must be returned to Tractel
repair company for verification. Any such device can only be
re-used upon written agreement from either Tractel
authorised repair company. Moreover, the anchor line in use
when the Stopfor™ became activated to prevent the userʼs
fall must be withdrawn from any further use.
16. Any repairs must be carried out in accordance with the
Tractel
®
17. Never use the Stopfor™, and the components used with it in
the safety system, for any purpose other than that for which
they are intended, and under conditions other than those
described in this manual.
In particular, never use the Stopfor™ for suspending the
operator other than in the event of a fall, and never use it for
a rescue operation.
18. It is important to return the Stopfor™ to Tractel
its authorised repair companies or competent persons, for
servicing at least once every twelve months. Such servicing
should not only cover the functioning of the device, but should
also concern the legibility of markings. It is to be reminded
that safety of the user is linked to the maintaining of the
equipmentʼs efficiency and resistance.
19. Important: If you are responsible for assigning the equipment
to an employee or similar person, ensure that you comply
with the applicable health and safety at work regulations.
20. It is recommended that the Stopfor™ is personally allocated
to each user, especially if this is an employee.

21. Any Stopfor™ or anchor rope that has been removed perma -
nently from use must be destroyed or made permanently
unavailable, to avoid it being used by mistake.
22. For security reasons, it is important to ensure that the device
or the anchoring point is always positioned correctly, and
that the work is carried out with the aim of reducing, as far as
possible, any risk of fall and the height of the fall.
23. For security reasons, it is essential to verify, prior to each use,
the space required beneath the operator at the workplace
to avoid the presence of any object in the zone of a possible
fall and to avoid any collision with the ground.
24. Never use the Stopfor™ if any one of its elements is damaged
or if it risks deteriorating the safety function of the device.
When setting up, it is essential to ensure that no deterioration
of the safety functions occurs.
25. The user should be fit and healthy, both physically and
mentally, when using the equipment. Should there be any
doubt, it is advisable to consult a doctor. The Stopfor™ must
not be used by pregnant women.
26. The equipment should not be used above its limits, or in any
other situation than the one intended (see "Conditions of use"
chapter).
27. Should the Stopfor™ be sold to another country than its
original destination, it is essential, for the security of the
operator, that the supplier provides all instructions (i.e.
general manual, maintenance and repair, periodical
inspections) in the language of the country of use.
28. Prior to using the Stopfor™, it is essential that the user, or the
authority in charge of his/her safety, shall have verified that
the solidity of the anchor line fastenings is in conformity with
the rules and standards in force.
29. All Stopfor™ that has not been inspected during the last
12 months must not be used, it must be inspected by an
authorised and competent technician who will authorise its use
in writing, or condemn it to avoid any further use. If they have
arrested a fall, they should be either condemned or destroyed
to prevent any further use.
