Checking the chain tension (fig. 49)
Move the motorcycle slowly until you find the point at
which the upper section of the chain is most taut.
Place the motorcycle on its sidestand. Push the chain
upwards with a finger in correspondence with the centre
of the swingarm (see adhesive label). The bottom run of
the chain must be able to deflect 30 to 32 mm.
E
If not, have the chain tensioned at a Ducati Dealer or
Authorized Workshop.
Warning
For the safety of the rider, it is essential that the
eccentric hub clamp bolts are correctly tightened.
Important
An incorrectly tensioned chain will cause the rapid
wear of transmission parts.
Lubrication of the drive chain
The chain fitted on your motorcycle has O-rings to protect
its moving parts from dirt, and to hold the lubricant inside.
So as not to damage these seals when cleaning the chain,
use special solvents and avoid aggressive washing with
high-pressure steam cleaners. After cleaning, blow the
chain dry with compressed air or wipe with an absorbent
material, then lubricate each link with SHELL Advance
Chain or Advance Teflon Chain.

Important
Using non-specific lubricants may cause severe
damage to the chain and the front and rear sprockets.
